Four months painting, and in the first round of the campaign the rebels were so badly walloped that I had to surrender unconditionally. Which, I suppose, is an improvement on the reality.
Virginia was set on fire by the first shot of the war, and never recovered. The Yanks got the jump on us with first moving every round before we could deploy properly, and having secured an early advantage were smart enough to use it; I was outflanked time after time. The one moment of glory was breaking the Iron Brigade, but that didn't save the Lost Cause.
(I realise the Colorado flag is an anachronism, but I couldn't resist it. It's on the wall in one scene in The Shining, one of my favourite movies.)
