GW lotr figures - size in comparison to official GA figs?
« on: 19 December 2017, 09:10:19 AM »
don't suppose anyone can supply a pic (or comment) on how GW lotr figures scale with the official Ghost archipelago figs - the crewmen set in particular?

no luck with google-fu.

Any figures (from the LotR range) in particular? Quite some variation in that range, especially from the very early plastics to later figures or metals. If somebody doesn't beat me to it, I can take some pics with the plastic crew later today or tomorrow.

any pics you could put up would be great - generally at least.

my interest specifically is the current (plastic) corsairs of umbar set - the figures, style-wise, look as tho' they'd go quite well with the crewmen.

Semi-random selection including a corsair it is!

The LotR figures overall are a bit smaller (but as none of the crew stand upright it's not as noticeable) and have especially smaller heads (not as visible on the wide-haired corsair, but certainly compared to the helmet wearing others - a head swap wouldn't look great). Not a massive difference however, have to say they fit in better than I initially expected.

Left to right: Plastic Haradrim, plastic GA crew, plastic Corsair of Umbar, plastic GA crew, metal Dunlending chieftain, plastic Numenorean (cute and tiny).

hey CS, that's fanastic, thank you.

very good of you to go to the trouble, and helpful to more than a few I'm sure.

for myself - I think they're that bit too small in comparison with the official figures... actually I kind of feel the same about current Perry figs from their own ranges (will post up a comp. pic in my thread for those at some point soon) which are a bit bigger than the LOTR corsair shown here, but still 'slighter' .
But, admittedly, one should always try and consider whether at table-top distance such differences are really going to be obvious / meaningful...

Yes, I can:

For me, they work great together. Frostgrave is a tad smaller, but when put on a GW base, you don't much notice.

thanks Joe.

interesting.
I think you and Coenus are right really - they do work if you're not being too picky.

I'm going to do some fig comparison pics - and hope it's ok to put them in this thread (I'll change the title at that point) so as to keep them together.

I dont think it matters as long as the fig has the look you want.
I've got a bunch of shield maidens in my latest warband, and GA crew with female heads on.
Those shield maidens are some tall ladies :)
So unless you're playing the game with your head on the table and have them all lined up next to each other you really dont notice that much.
and if their all lined up i think you're in for more problems than some being taller than others :D.

Also , as you get older your eyesight isnt as critical as it used to be and at a distance you have trouble working out which one is a specialist
and which one is just a normal soldier let alone a 3 or 4 mm height difference ...lol

I use minis from all over for Frostgrave. One thing I've done is used the thin Frostgrave bases for taller minis and the thick GW style bases for shorter ones. Balances things out a bit if you aren't picky.

I think Roger is right... if it works.. then go for it.

I think I mentioned elsewhere that I am a miniature snob of sorts.... I have loads of the official figures.. BUT.... those are mine.. the loaners can be my LOTR Corsairs!

I am very much considering making an "Arabic" pirate war band for GA...... they would be PERFECT!

plastic Numenorean (cute and tiny).

I've nothing meaningful to add to the topic but I just wanted to say that I love this description of the Numenorean.  :D

I really have no idea what I'm doing.
