Hey all, I just completed a proof-of-concept Magyar heavy cavalry kitbash and I'm pretty pleased with the result. Time and money permitting, I'll expand to a Saga/Lion Rampant-sized force over the next few months, primarily using GB Arab plastics as a base (I'm not particularly fussed with exact historical accuracy).

I'll probably make some Early Medieval Slavs to be their opponents, or maybe Franks, but those will involve only minimal conversion/kitbashing, so I'm not quite as excited about them. I also have Vikings that are contemporaneous, even if I'm not sure how much they actually would have crossed paths...

Excellent job. You certainly make good you of GB Arab cavalry. Fireforge components are mostly compatible with GB. Russian heads might also be of some use.

Thanks! After a quick peek, Fireforge is definitely on my radar now. Their Russian Infantry kit might be the best base for the Magyar heavy infantry. Even if I wish the skirts (tunics, whatever) were a bit longer...

Interesting kitbash. I wouldn't have thought to use such disparate parts but you seem to have captured it very well.

I believe longer robes were usually only worn by cavalry (and civilians). Foot soldiers usually shortened their robes or tunics by pulling them up in some fashion. No one wants to trip over their own clothing in the middle of battle.

Oh, good call delbruck, that hadn't occurred to me!

And thanks ichwillauch and Hu Rhu. Kitbashing is absolutely my favorite part of the hobby, I'm always glad when people enjoy that part of my work.

The Ottomans pulled their robes up through their belts on both sides. Perhaps that's the origin of turnbacks in the 18th century.
