Pulp Boxers
« on: 21 July 2009, 02:04:44 PM »
OK, my last pictures for today, I promise!  ;D This was part of the same commission job I painted the sailors for. Joe also wanted me to bang together a boxing ring to display them in. If the color schemes on my Pulp stuff look familiar it is because joe asks me to stick as closely as possible to the ones displayed on the Pulp site!

The ring was dead easy. It is just a 2" thick piece of insulation foam cut into an 8" square. The posts are balsa nicked up a bit to look worn and then pinned and glued into the foam using a long bit of paperclip. I then glued short lengths of wire into the posts as attachment points for the ropes. The ropes themselves are lengthe of string that looked right for an old back-alley ring. I attacked them to the wires in the posts with small blobs of green stuff I sort of made look like the taped-up pade you usually see on the real thing. If you wanted a more modern/upscale ring you could substitute insulated wirint for the string.

All in all it was a very fun, easy, and rewarding little project.

I can't see these ones either. Somebody is not having a good day. I am not sure though if it is you or me. Can anybody else see the pictures?

Agreed. Great setup. I can't help but think that a black and white paint job would also look great with a setup like this.

Thanks all. I can barely manage a "normal" paint job, but I agree this would be a great project for a black and white effect. The inspiration for this came from Bob Murch's own display piece. I just made this one a tad larger and did a bit more with the ropes.
