WA's Boxers: complementary manufacturers?
« on: 07 July 2023, 11:40:40 PM »
I really like the Boxers that Wargames Atlantic makes and I intend to eventually use them to build a Qing Dynasty force for the Opium Wars, Tonkin War, Sino-Japanese ect but unfortunately it's not comprehensive (no cavalry, artillery, matchlock men). I'm wondering if anyone knew of any manufacturers that would be compatible with Wargames Atlantic figures?

I've not seen the wargames Atlantic miniatures in person so I'm not sure how compatible these ranges size wise are but

On the large end of 28mm you have Gringo 40s opium wars range ( fantastic artillery)

On the smaller end of 28mm you have Wargames Foundry's Taiping rebellion range

And Parkfield miniatures have another Taiping range

Finally in mid size 28mm Crusader have recently started a boxer rebellion range

In addition to the companies Jon mentioned above, Ironclad Miniatures, Victorious Miniatures, Castaway Arts Miniatures, Redoubt Miniatures, Old Glory Miniatures, Tiger Miniatures and Steve Barber Miniatures also manufacture 28mm Boxer lines.

As I do not (yet!) have the Wargames Atlantic Boxers I can't do more than guess about compatibility. I assume since all the Wargames Atlantic figures are 3D designed that they would be very size consistent across their lines and since their Irish and Riflemen seem to mix well with Gripping Beast and Perry, the "middle 28mm" seems to be right for them.

Trust my WAG (Wild Assed Guess) or not, YMMV.

@ Diablo Jon After assembling a few of the WA Boxers set, I would say they are pretty comparable to Perry's plastics.

I do like Crusader, but they look more of a Boxer look. Plus, no cav/artillery/matchlocks. Same with Victorious and Ironclad. @leadlust Tiger Miniatures looks pretty comprehensive and cost effective, but I hear they are quite massive like Gringo 40s.
