One Page Rules: Age of Fantasy Skirmish
« on: 20 October 2023, 09:33:31 PM »

We've been playing the One Page Rules suite of games for over a year now and are loving the fun, tactical streamlined gameplay.

After a lot of the sci fi Grimdark Future play and a fair bit of hombrewed historical and AVBCW games, we've started playing the fantasy skirmish rules.

With the recent rules update, its been a lot of fun building and playing small fantasy forces.

Anyway, here's a bit of a gallery of the forces i've been using.

Goblins: https://luddite1811.blogspot.com/2023/09/goblins.html
A nice little force of goblins and their pet troll.  They die easy but there's a lot of them!

Eternal Wardens: https://luddite1811.blogspot.com/2023/09/stormcast-eternals.html
A small force of elite, heavily armoured warriors. Each warrior has to do a lot in-game.

Ogres! https://luddite1811.blogspot.com/2023/09/ogres-galore.html
I actually only use 3-4 with cannons, and a screen of "pet goblins", and I think i've had most success with these.

I'm working on some heavily armoured orcs, and a cadre of Plague Disciple Havok Warriors.

I wasn't in these games but here's a few battle reports from some of my regular opponents.

Goblins vs Chivalrous Kingdoms: https://durhamwargames.co.uk/battle-report/one-page-rules-age-of-fantasy-skirmish/

Goblins vs High Elves (on a bear hunt): https://durhamwargames.co.uk/battle-report/goblins-vs-high-elves-we-are-going-on-a-bear-hunt/

And my friend's as-yet-untested "Northmen" Havok War Clans: https://durhamwargames.co.uk/painting/painting-fantasy-northmen-with-contrast-speed-xpress-paints/

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.  It is by the juice of Typhoo the thoughts acquire speed, the teeth acquire stains, the stains serve as a warning.  It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

Those ogres look brutal! How does OPR fantasy compare to other skirmish games like Dragon Rampant?

Compared to other skirmish games, in my view OPR is superior.
It has a simple and elegant core ruleset that is surprisingly tactical, and with the full rules can be modified and added to, to meet your preferences.
And for the skirmishing, it has a great set of scenarios.

A couple of skirmish games from our recent run.

They’re all lovely Luddite! I especially like the ogres, the skin tones and bruising are beautiful (I’ve bruised myself quite impressively in a variety of interesting ways in the past and this bought back some fond memories  lol) and this is probably the most realistic attempt I’ve seen. I shall have to check out OPR fantasy…….

Keep up the great work (I’m going to check out the battle reports you linked)

Thanks Andrew!

Yeah, i figure ogres live pretty brutal lives and bruising seemed appropriate!

I'm working hard to get out from under my own lead mountain and OPR has certainly helped give me impetus for completing long dormant projects. :)
