15 mm figure to represent Cardinal Richelieu, please?
« on: 04 February 2025, 06:51:42 AM »
I have the Blue Moon version and it is the one figure in the range I find disappointing, lovely range otherwise.

So, can anyone recommend a good Richelieu in 15 or 18 mm - similar to the version portrayed by Tim Curry would be cool.

Thanks!

Apologies, can I piggyback on to this please?

I'm after a suitable smells bells and sparklies figure for Archbishop GianBattista Rinuccini. Maybe mounted or on a litter.

I'm looking for something at the smaller end of the 15/18 church.

I had the whole range a couple years ago.  Had lots of fun with them.  Honestly though, I don’t think there is another range for Three Musketeer minis in 15/18mm.

Figure does not need to be from a Musketeer range - perhaps something hiding in an ECW or TYW range or perhaps even in fantasy range might work.

Radar, had to look up your guy but from the photo I saw pretty much any old tonsured priest in robes would work unless you want him in full regalia.

My search has led me to Alternative Armies 15 mm 17th century range and I've found a couple of likely candidates in both a mounted and foot version (my pairing) and looks like I will also add some varied dead and wounded figures.  And there is a nice 'package' deal of some really nice walls and barricades that adds up to almost 8' of total real world linear obstacles (well, in the real world these obstacles would force a beetle to detour maybe) - and fills one of the few unfilled niches in my collection, at least as far as length goes, not all the same, five different types so only about 19" for each type.  As to the possible cardinals, probably get both to keep things balanced which means I need to pick another set since I will still keep the Bluemoon cardinal, just reassign him to a lesser role.  So, back to shopping.

FifteensAway Rinucciniwas a real bling bishop, the representative of him in Cromwell is probably not far off the mark.

Alas nothing in either the C16 or C17 AA range suitable for a blingy archbishop.

My experience of AA renaissance range is that they are very slender.

Miniature Figurines produce the old Matchlock Miniatures ECW range.
Unfortunately, the are not photographed, but I remember photos of the range from my old copies of Wargames Illustrated and I particularly liked some of the characters. The miniatures I have are on the larger size.

Here is a comparison photo of the size of various 15mm ECW type miniatures which includes a Matchlock Miniature.

Barry, thank you for the information and the links.  However, hopefully, I have ordered figures from Alternative Armies to fill my need.  If they aren't up to my needs I will certainly revisit those links.

If anyone is wondering about Matchlock's belligerent bishop figure, it is based on a picture of the Archbishop of York, John Williams.

And if you want to compare figure sizes, might I humbly suggest https://www.keepyourpowderdry.co.uk/2024/04/which-figures-part-2a-size-matters-foot.html

My first thought was also Matchlock Minis.
Years ago I got their Rat catcher, Peg leg with pig,Wounded man  being held in seat whilst surgeon does hsi worst,  and Lady with musket.
I think there were acouple of others too but don't remember.
Great figures, easily fit with Minifigs.

If you read the books, it basically describes the Cardinal as dressing like a nobleman.

So, any noble/general type figure should work

SirRoyston, exactly the direction I went with buying some figures from Alternative Armies 16th century range, hope they work with my other figures.

Figures arrived today and while just a tad slighter they will work fine for the cardinal, mounted and foot.  The casualty figures are noticeably smaller but I think will still work, especially once based as the others.  So, problem resolved.

I will still keep the Blue Moon version and paint him up - so I will have the cardinal in robes and in civilian dress.
