Thank you for the nice comments.

I recon you are refering to the Victrix phalanx. Yes they are decals. I always by those, as I think they really lift the miniatures several levels up. As to smooth surface I have no real trick. I always give them several smoothings with a old used brush but that it.

A few days ago my Indians finally made it to the table in a large battle against the Macedonians. We used To the Strongest with around 350 point pr. side. split between six players. The Indians deployed two battles of mixed infantry, chariots and elephants. The last Indian battle was primarily made up of light troops and cavalry. The Macedonians deployed a large center battle of phalangist and a battle of mostly Greek mercenary hoplites. The last battle was made up of heavy and light cavalry.

The Indians quickly realized that their army was no match in quality against the Macedonians so they decided to use their many longbows to whittle down the Macedonians. The rest of the army held back while the bowmen laid down a storm of arrows. Unfortunately the could´nt hit a barn door and most of the Macedonians reached the Indian lines rather intact. The Greek mercenaries were first to reached the Indian lines and one of their forward hoplites was cut down

On the Macedonians left flank their light cavalry rather rashly charged ahead of the heavy cavalry and was easily cut down by the Indian infantry. The Companion heavy cavalry is really hard hitting and made quiet a dent in the Indian line. However with no light cavalry to protect their flank the Indian cavalry was able to outflank them.

All along the rest of the line elephants, phalangist, chariots and spears clashed in a long, indecisive struggle. However the outflanked Macedonian cavalry broke from the relentless flank charged of the Indian cavalry. The final nail in the Macedonian coffin came when Alexander to eagerly exposed his phalanx to flank charges from Indian heavy chariots. Alexander was only lightly wounded and fought on in a supporting phalanx. However the Macedonian looses were starting to tell, as their flanks were turned. The battle ended when Alexanders new host phalanx was also broken.

The Indians won a decisive victory. A crucial point was the succes of the Indian cavalry battle on their right flank. The Indian cavalry is no match for the Macedonian Companian cavalry but as they were able to outflank them, they were easily cut down.

A great battle and fantastic to see the Indians on the table finally.

Cheers
Erik

Great looking armies. There’s a reason light cavalry don’t tangle with formed foot… Still an embarrassing loss for the Macedonians. 😳

A thought, the Indians also fought with the Achaemenid Persians.  The Persian Empire had two Satrapies in India IIRC..... perhaps your next project?

That is an interesting (and tempting) thought. My initial plans however are to turn the Macedonians in a Selucid direction. I already have one Selucid elephant and my Victrix Cartagenian elphant can tand it as well. All I need are some scythed chariots and some armoured cavelry.

My large colection of republican Romans are also calling for a Phyric opponent, which the Macedonians should also be easy to convert into.

Thank you for nice commets.

Cheers
