WW1 Dogfights-rules
« on: February 11, 2010, 07:46:14 AM »
Does anyone know of any good WW1 Dogfight-rules? I have, and like, Wings of War but I would like to try my WoW planes with another set of rules.

Hi Mattias,
I mainly use a set from an old copy of Wargames Illustrated called "Snoopy vs the Red Baron" they're very simple but good fun.
There's also "Fokkers over Flanders" - I think by TTG, so may be out of print.
If you've a hex printed cloth you could try a boardgame such as "Richtoffen's War".

I've heard good things about "Check your Six!" but not played it - I don't know if anyone has backdated it from WWII to WWI.

Hope that helps

From what I can remember, there is a WW1 version of "Check  Your Six!" imaginatively titled "Watch Your Six!". Not sure if it's actually been released yet though.

If you want a game with plenty of detail then you could look at "Canvas Eagles". It is hex based but I'm sure could be adapted. This one always seems to crop up in discussions about WW1 dogfighting and best of all the rules and stuff are available free from http://www.eaglesmax.com/

My personal favourite is "Algernon Pulls it Off" by Two Fat Lardies. Another hex based set but they are simple rules that offer a fast and fun game. A card system is used for random activation which adds an additional element of tension to the game.
...and what fresh new hell is this?

I second the Canvas Eagles vote.  It is simply a miniatures translation of the old AH Blue Max boardgame (with a lot of add-ons)
Clear the battlefield and let me see
