'Kong' figures
« on: 04 May 2010, 10:17:46 PM »
What is available for Giant Ape/King Kong figures out there?  Would anything work for 15mm?

Would this guy work?  How big is it?

Thanks

Jake

it rather depends, how big are you aiming for. Considering you’re looking for a giant animal most miniatures would scale up ok, it’s just a question of how giant you want it to be.

That's a great model, but you'll find you need a bit of green stuff around the arms. Still worth it though.

He is here on a 50mm square base - I use him as a Treeman in my Pygmy Wood Elf army.

It fits well on a 2" square base.

RLBPS had a brief fling with doing a range that included a massive, Kong-sized Primate (or, if you like, A "Primate of Extraordinary Size".) However, apparently things fell through, as the range ended rather quickly, with little comment..

That said, I do have the Reaper Ape mentioned here. I use him for my Gladiatorial Games (ok, that's the intent, I've been so snowed under with other projects that I've been neglecting the Arena lately). He is quite large, and would probably look the part. In 28mm, he's almost big enough to qualify as a "Mighty Joe Young."

I painted that RLBPS resin ape up for a comission and it is amazing. I've not handles the Reaper offering, but if you can snag RLBPS' you won't regret it. Judging from that photo the two are about the same size.

Get a big plastic toy an paint it.  They are easy to find and usually cheaper.

Check out these offerings on Amazon.  Safari ltd.  do nice figs that are suitable for giant versions of animals in games.

Papo makes a great gorilla that costs about 5 or 6 dollars.  It doesn't take paint well, but it's really well-painted to begin with.  In terms of scale, it's perfect for Kong.
Check out THE CROGAN ADVENTURES, a historical adventure graphic novel series available from your local bookstore or comic shop (or, of course, Amazon).  I make 'em.
