Hmm, yeah... our army virtually stopped winning wars at all after they discarded the red uniforms (last war with red service uniforms for the line infantry was the 3-years war 1848-50 - a.k.a. the First Schleswig War).

the red tunic belong to Derby regiment, altough dated Sudan war 1884-5 I believe is just for parade purpose, British infantry regiment arrived in Sudan in red , most changed in khaki , expecially those coming from India;  the tunic is of heavy wool not so fine for the climate.
