'Rough rider' style cavalry figures?
« on: 11 February 2011, 12:48:21 PM »
Anyone know where I can find some finely sculpted 'rough rider' style cavalry figures with smokey bear hats?  These are for a American archaeologist/military unit for BoB/colonial periods

Thanks in advance

Old Glory do early 20th Century US Cavalry in their Mexican Revolution range. Most of them have pinched tops like Smokey Bear hats, a couple look a bit more Stetson-y. They are a bit floppier than the one worn by the drill sgt. in Full Metal Jacket, though. Look a bit more lived-in.

They do both mounted and dismounted troopers.

Steve,

Now what are you up to? :)  I've not seen them in the flesh, but these look nice to me, and I think Outpost are closer in size to Copplestone than OG would be

Just filling out a few gaps in Texas Ted's army.  Neither set grab me to be honest, but I've ordered an overpriced Old Glory set to see what they look like in the flesh.

Try looking at Tiger miniatures Spanish American War Rough Riders both mounted and dismounted.  www.recreationalconflict.com

The Poncho Villa [sic] range is amongst the best stuff OG has done. If you are looking for US cavalry from about 1910 onwards, these are your best choice. As Plynkes said, there are mounted and dismounted versions.

Thanks for that.  I didnt realise how large a range they have, but I'm not taken by their sculpting I'm afraid...lets see what the OG ones look like in the flesh

They've arrived, and they're.....lousy!  Well animated horses with poorly sculpted riders.  V.small as well.  And, in true OG style, ten riders and horses crammed into a plastic bag wrapped in brown paper meant that two horses lost their tails in the post.  Crap.
