I want to step up my game with foliage - tutorial reccommendations?

I'm fairly happy with the terrain I've been making lately.  But- one area where I'd like to improve is in making foliage.

I want to make a large ruined temple that I can use for both Pulp (lost world/explorer) and Fantasy gaming, and I'd like the temple to have a fair amount of tropical foliage around it/hanging over it/growing out of it.

I've seen pictures of people's work, using aquarium and plastic craft shop plants, and some of the terrain built with those has been amazing.  I've also seen some really cool model railroading terrain with lots of great foliage.

So, if I want to step up my game in adding greenery to my terrain, where's a good place to start?  I always seem to only be able to find finished photos, rarely tutorials.

Can the fine folks here provide some links?  Maybe even here on the LAF (or TMP or Frothers?)?  Preferably with lots of photos!

The best terrain-making site on the web is Terragenesis, in my opinion:

It's interesting that you are using corrugated cardboard for your bases.  I usually use thin MDF, but that's kind of a pain to cut and sand. Your cardboard method would be quicker, and easier I think.

Does the cardboard stand up to use over the long term? and any warping problems?

 So far there has been no warping - I think this may be due to the masking tape. That and the small size might help too.

 And I have had some of these scenic pieces since 2008 and still no warping.
