1912 Roll Royce Silver Ghost
« on: 10 November 2012, 08:19:15 PM »
Picked one up off ebay for £5.............the listing stated for refurbishment and he wasn't joking......finally got it cleaned up and parts separated.....plan is for a command vehicle with a couple of machine guns and/or 'anti aircraft' gun on the top (courtesy of Foundry and HLBS respectively).....made the roof opening so far.....

A lot of work to do and taking the family to my niece's 21st birthday party has put me back at least one day.......

Not sure if I should keep the glass in or swap it for wire screens.....any ideas?

Bit of spray paint today, decided against the Nordfelt and stuck with the Vickers. I'll try and take pics tomorrow.

You'll get more comments when we get more pics! I am actually eagerly awaiting this project, I think it will look really good! I'd be leaning towards wire screens for the windows. I think if you were going to go to the effort of cutting a hole in the roof you'd try and reinforce the windows.

I always leave the "glass" off now as it can be awkward not least because you have to mask it to matt varnish it...

Is there a way you could do twin Vickers? That would look cool.

Just been trying to fit the Empress minis driver in...........should have done a proper dry run before as he is much too small for the car.....feet nowhere near the pedals etc......so frustrating and also out of scale with the driving wheel which had been nagging at me whilst painting it. Will have to make do now though and try to hide his legs somehow............maybe some more of the mesh on the front window which was going to be plain glass.

If you feel up to it, make an armoured cabin for the driver. Should hide him from the view somewhat better that way?

I have had to cut the toes off most of the Empress figures to get them to fit into the Crossleys and the Silver ghost that I have used.

Was difficult to get any to sit right.  Is your model one of the larger scales 1/43?  I think mine maybe a bit smaller 1/48??  Not that its an excate science with these models!

I think it is the larger 1/43rd going off the seated figure......never mind, I am in the middle of making a mesh screen to hide his lower half......also making the gunner out of a Foundry top half and Warlord plastic lower half.....pics at some point as night shifts have come around again  :(
