Central Asian terrain boards TAKE 2

LOL...After some major stress with Photobucket (think i've got the hang of it) I thought i would post some images of a project i've done this week.
The boards are made from Eco Foam, around £5.00 each and measure 1.2m by 0.5m.

I started by cutting out the hills and then carved detail in with a craft knife.



They were then painted in B&Q's 'clay' emulsion





Next stage was to cover with pva glue and sprinkle sand and grit over. Once dry the surface was sealed with a pva wash 50% water to glue and left to dry. Finally the whole tile is dry brushed with white/ yellow white acrylic.



And we are ready to play!

The Buddha head is an aquarium casting, more south Asian than central but it adds flavour.



Bandits supported by Tigermen (well Fu is Manchu ) attempt to take a hill the hard way!

The cliffs are really well done. And of course the terrain as a whole is beautiful... As Beautiful as a central asian plain with rocks can be

Those look really nice.  Just out of curiosity, how study is the foam after you've sealed it up?  Any issues with chipping?

Can you say where you got your 'eco-foam' boards from?

These are loft insulation boards manufactured by Knaupf that used to go under the brand name 'Space Boards'. I've used them for several terrain projects, but then B&Q stopped stocking them
According to the manufacturer, Wickes are supposed to still carry them - but I've been to several branches of Wickes and none have them.
If you've found a new UK source, I'm fairly sure there will be several LAFers who would be very interested to hear about it

Mine are from B&Q, they also carry a large range of insulation products but these looked much denser than the rest. My local branch is in Lincoln if that helps but i'm sure if one branch stocks them then the others must surely follow ?

The coniferous ones arn't too bad...need Himalayan or Yunnan pine, the latter is very distinctive. Failing that Saxaul trees, small shrub like trees from Khazakstan. Depends really if i'm being 100% accurate or going for an 'oriental' theme...would love some of the aquarium 'bonzai' style trees but they are quite expensive.
