Battle mat
« on: 28 August 2013, 09:05:30 AM »
Wanted to get hold of a GW battle mat ( green) but after seeing one on eBay with a bid of £50! on it wondered if anyone made a similar product.
Thanks in advance

There are many options. Zuzzy mats seems to be favoured. Though if you reallu want low cost and high quality it's probably best making your own. There was a thread a while back here on the workbench about making your own using acrylic caulking. There's also a method using teddybear fur. If you search through the workbench you'll find them and probably more.

Am I missing something as the list price was only £15 http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?prodId=prod1400020

Maybe I need to visit hobbycraft (Hull) on Saturday and dump on eBay as I am sure they still had a couple last week lol

I use a big green towel - big enough to fit on my dining room table for skirmish games :)

Unless something has changed in past few weeks, Zuzzy has been running 2+ months behind their orders.

Have you checked fabric shops for felt or teddy bear fur? Also, you could look at blankets. White or off white + dye in your preferred color would make a nice surface, and they're usually plenty big.

Bought it from Dunelm for under a tenner if memory serves.

Hobby craft have 20 according to their customer services only thing is they don't know which stores have them? The online stock checker is out of date so not sure what I can do with that information.

Why why why didn't I just pick one up when they had them.

I got a paper backed one from a railway shop that does the job. It was massive so I did cut it up a bit. And then glued part of it to a board...

I can tell you Hull Hobbycraft do not have any.

To be honest they did not have a great deal of things - model kits now relegated to 1/2 a self set, WS scenery bare stock and lots and lots of gaps between blisters - hope they keep going...
