Talk to me about buildings!
« on: September 04, 2015, 12:41:31 AM »
I need to start collecting some non-paper buildings fit for a 'downtown' environment. I have been using Worldworks stuff earlier, but the move of my gaming stuff to the Garage Attic has meant that some of it hat caught some moisture and warped...

They should be useable for a 'present day' city (and thus could comprise a variety of styles, from Victorian over Art Deco, and modern steel/concrete/glass structures).

There is NO way that I am going to scratch-build what I need for this purpose, and I would prefer kits/sets that require a minimum of modelling (but mdf and/or resin kits are fine).

I have seen the Art Deco stuff Knights of Dice are soon bringing out, and I shall probably be getting some of that, but I would also like to have some 'plain' (and, hopefully, cheaper) office/Residential Buildings.

So, please, please, please, don't be shy, and suggest anything you think might fit my needs - no contribution is too small or weird, and you may be pointing me to just that special feature, that I have to add to my city!  :)

(Added to this, I might want to get some derelict/ruined Buildings for a war-torn or post-apoc look, so don't hold back on those, either  ;) )

Gamecraft is an option, thanks (although I'm not sure about those 'Brownstone' houses and the very long front staircase).

Finger and Toe is paper (right?), so not an option, alas, as I need stuff able to withstand the slightly moist air in my attic.

....

I have been looking at Sarissa and Impudent Mortal, and I think I'll start out with some of the Sarissa CityBlock buildings, as soon as I have my next pay-check in. I think that some paint can make a decent result out of those.

But I can always need more options, so if some golden eggs are hidden out there in the interwebs, I'd be much obliged to hear about them.  :)

Micro Arts Studio has a "XIX Century Block of Flats" that would work for modern even though it was designed for Steampunk. They also launched a Pizza Shop and a warehouse during their most recent KS (not sure if it is on their site yet).

Dust Tactics has a Tenement Building that is a plastic kit, but hollow and lacking a roof.

There are some Playmobil kits that people have used that are real nice, but a lot of them are selling at gold and silver level prices.

OK, I'll have a look around at some of those offerings, too. Thanks!

Depends what scale you're after but I'd take a look on eBay for model railway buildings - some useful bits and bobs appear from time to time, mostly HO/OO scale.

I rather like the Sarissa buildings. I plan on making my own city table mostly with them.

Also Battlesystems are soon starting a kickstarter for their post apoc buildings. They are cardboard though but they look very very nice.

If you want some bigger items that work well with 28mm but without enormous footprints, look at the Italeri 1/72 range, in particular the Berlin House and the Church.

Woodland Scenics produce a variety of simple kits and building facades in both HO and 'O' scale that would be good for populating a city, most are mid 20th C in terms of style.

Have a look at my project log over on Warseer, I have used buildings from a variety of manufacturers.

The Timeline models seem to fit nicely alongside the Sarissa stuff, so there's another one to mark!  :)

I have been considering the paper-on-foamboard solution, too, to make sturdier models out of the pdf-stuff I have (mainly Worldworks and Fat Dragon).

And I like the mixing in of other ranges - makes for a more naturally varied cityscape. I find the Italeri model especially intrigueing  :)

It seems that I only have to plan in which order I want to get, build, and paint the buildings for my city  ;D

Thanks Guys!

I can vouch for the quality of the Sarissa stuff.  I got a half dozen or so of the cityblock buildings.  Great stuff especially the corner building.
