Red Devils Reinforcements
« on: September 08, 2015, 06:59:11 AM »
It must have been twenty year ago when I first watched 'A Bridge too far'. Since then this movie influenced me and my wargaming hobby. Years ago I had 20mm Red Devils. Firstly Revell plastics and later Britannia metal miniatures. A while ago - actually this project is running since 2013... - I stumpled over Warlord Games's range for their Bolt Action game and fell for their republished BAM figures.

After a longish break I painted the second batch last week:
First two leader figures. Actually they're meant to be officers but I decided to use them as corporals for my paratrooper sections.

Then a couple of riflemen wearing berets and a small 2" mortar. I like the Warlord figures because a lot of them are wearing berets. That gives me the chance to get more variety in my force and on the other hand paras with berets look somehow braver to me:
The 2" mortar is a nice figure but I have no idea whether I'll really need him for Bolt Action. Historically it's a perfect addition to the platoon HQ but probably so it won't harm to have one.

Last but not least four more careful troopers wearing the Mk. 2 Airborne steel helmet with some camouflage on it:

As you see I have to finish the bases but I wanted to take some pictures before varnishing the boys. For the DPM smock I used the same colour combination as for my earlier Red Devils:

Although it looks too greenish on the detail shots the general impression on the table is rather satisfying to me. Especially because they combine well with their earlier painted chaps.

Only ten men but a large step to my initial 500 points army for Bolt Action. Only twelve men and a jeep to go!
Hopefully I'll have them finished this year...

If you like those then feel free to come to my blog and leave some feedback there (or here of course...):

Just one final thing:
I'll open a threat at the Bazar for it but let me mention plea here as well:
Warlord Games is giving a free miniature with their Bolt Action rulebook. Coincidentally it's a British para that I would appreciate to add to my collection:
Unfortunately I bought my books years ago at our local hobby store and didn't get the free figure since they only deliver it from Warlord directly.
Does anybody have one of them left and is willing to leave it to me for trade or for a reasonable price?

Cheers
Stefan

Really like the painting on those lads. I can't for the life of me get mi' noggin round them rifles though... with a name like Bolt Action why can't they sculpt a bolt action No.4 properly!?

:o

Many thanks for your kind comments.

As for the rifle sculpts. Indeed there are better sculpts but I'm rather satisfied with them since there a couple of worse sculpts as well.     ;)
