4Ground, old school?

I recently ordered another batch of lovely 4Ground buildings.  Much to my surprise I opened a box in my closet to find the Rorke's Drift set which I had completely forgotten about!  Well, to take up some time before the other stuff arrived I put this together this weekend.

This is an older kit...no interior details, no pre-paint, etc.  It was still a joy to put together but those pre-painted kits sure spoiled me!  More pictures on the blog.  (sorry, killed my photobucket account running too many threads here, need to transition to the blog!)

I'm planning on "matting down" the teddy bear fur, not sure what kind of mix I should use...

seeing that ladder, I thought of something ... In Germany there is an old custom (though I am sure it is still done today for obvious reasons ^^) called "Fensterln", meaning literaly translated something like "to window". A man is coming to the woman he likes, but could not display openly (nor could she ...), so he gets to her at night via the window, which is usually high up. And in older movies these men usually die, falling of the ladder, with all sorts of trouble afterwards.  

But ... what did I want ro say? Yes, the fur.
I use carpenters glue, with a mix of water. Too much water and it will simply rinse of or soak the underground with no effect. Too much glue and it will not stick as well. So about 50/50 is a good start.

Don't overdo it, cause it will layer the texture of the fur, which one obviously want to keep. But if completely dried, You can also paint it, if need be.

Another suggestion: if You trim the fur (hm ... more thoughts, but here is not the place to say  ) don't cut it to even. It won't look good, so make it a bit fuzzy down the lower edges.

I done my 4 ground roofs with PVA and water, worked well and looks the part

Cool, I was thinking water/glue/add some brown paint to stain it a bit...then highlight if needed.  I'm also looking for wooden shingle kits (4Ground no longer appears to sell these) because I'd consider ditching the thatch entirely if needed.

The provided roof is just far too plain.

Awesome, what's weird is I couldn't find them under any of their shop headings.

So, I ordered some paper shingles from Warbases and will be re-roofing the storehouse (I broke the roof removing the thatch... )

In addition, a bunch more stuff has been built with bags and bags of new stuff waiting in the wings.
