Incidentally, I've noticed that exhibitors at model railway shows are very like anglers - they never seem to look happy (unlike wargamers)....

That was one of the things we were talking about, it seems quite an aged population of railway enthusiasts. We were thinking the would make a fortune with a walking cane/zimmer frame trade stand. It seemed to be mostly grandads with their grandkids. It would be ashame if it really is a dying past time!

We were trying to work out if we could sneak back in, when everone went home and play wargames over all of the o gauge railways!

I think railway modellers are unhappy because once their layout is done , unlike wargamers, they can't change it around.

Beautiful pictures, thank you very much for the effort of taking them and showing us! Great show indeed. I wonder how that works. The clubs/owners take all the risk of shipping them to site, erecting them and leaving them and their valuable models overnight. Do they get a share of the entrance fee or it is all just for the fun, pride and honour?

Rather sad that the demographic may be changing a little, as long as retirees keep entering the hobby thats ok, but if they keep buying motorbikes and killing themselves, or getting lost on climbing adventures, where will all those fantastic products, stores and techniques go??!

Maybe there'll be a renaissance in modelling the same as in music sales. I keep hearing vinyl is making a comeback. Maybe the lure of something material and physical will bring people away from computers?

But you're an enigma! Your tables are a fantastic crossover world between the two hobbies!

Actually never asked what the guys with the displays get. I'll need to remember to ask that next year. One guy I spoke to was talking of a few hundred pound to transport his display up to Glasgow. There must be something in it. As well as that, they do charge adults £12 at the door. I don't know who sees that.

I don' think they get anything from it, it's more a 'love' thing. There's one down the road from us in November and that's £6 through the door and with the amount of punters there I can't imagine that it would be hardly anything after the venue has bee paid for
