Generic Landship Hulls...
« on: 23 February 2016, 03:34:41 AM »
I have completed three landships for my VSF gaming so far and because I am enjoying making them so much already have plans for more (which is not really a problem as you can never have enough Landships!). BUT how many of these will I ever get on a tabletop at once I thought so I began to ponder and thought if I make a generic hull which I can slot a superstructure into then I can make as many of those as I want and just chop and change them on the generic hull as I require them for games!

I created two generic hulls.

So once a superstructure is made it's a simple matter of attaching it to the top of the hull by sliding it into place. See in the example below with a bit of stryene substituting for a superstructure it fits in the top of the hull and the two arrows show the way it will get slid into place...

After sliding the superstructure forward it is 'locked' into place, you'll see in the picture below in our example the left arrowhead is now hidden...

Well I'm off to build some superstructures!

Cheers

These look excellent, and the modular superstructure approach opens them up to all sorts of potential uses.

Really looking forward to seeing what you come up with :)

Nice idea, thought about casting them?
It's not difficult and you can create hordes of things in a short time.

Hi Guys!

Thanks for the comments!

Rich H thanks for the suggestiion I do some casting with Pinkysil molds for special small items but in this case it defeats the purpose of what I want, I am after lots of variety rather than lots of total numbers, there will not be more than a couple of these on my VSF skirmish battlefields at any one time so I'll stick with a few hulls and a variety of superstructures. Mind you I have been asked to make a couple of commission ones so maybe I could look into it for that? But then I'd have no idea what to charge and and I'd hate to supply someone with something I think is acceptable and they don't :)...

Cheers!

I charge £10-£12 for a T-26 and £14 for an SU-76i which are a bit bigger.  Not unreasonable for an amateur cast with the odd bubble.  It's only worth t if you are casting 5-6.  I usually do it if I want multiples of things. I then sell some extras.  I don't make any money really as silicone is expensive!  but it funds my models.

But I make sure the buyers know what they are getting into, no professional quality pressure moulds here, just a reasonable wargame tank.

Thanks for that information Rich H, useful to know. Nice T-26 tanks BTW...

Thanks :)

I've cast quite a few things from full tanks as above to fiddly 28mm motorbikes generally with good success.

The models look very good so far and the idea to insert different decks is splendid!

I'm looking forward to see with what decks you come up with.
