Escher Painting

Recently I finally got my hands on a Necromunda Escher gang, thanks to Gunbird. I've wanted these for a long time, but always seemed to just miss out. A few models had been converted, requiring me to do some reconstructive surgery once I stripped them. The biggest job of that was giving the Escher leader a new powersword. (The original model is pointing, but a previous owner had given her a second edition era powersword. It was far too large and thick for the model, so I replaced it with a more elegant weapon, from a more civilised age.) Plasticard and bits provided this result:

Today I finished painting the first three of the gang:

I decided to not go full on 80's glam-punk queen on them, but instead opt for a more subdued and individual colourscheme for each. As a unifying theme as well as a nod to the classic studio paintjob, each ganger will get either a yellow loincloth or a yellow piece of armour somewhere on their person. With some luck there will also be tartan trousers in the future...

With these done, I have two more sets of 3 to go, and then the Leader. (Unless I can't resist and acquire more in the meantime...)

Gorgeous Escher paints. Really like the darker style for them. I always thought the 80s glam thing could be overdone for them. Nice stuff!

Glad to know I'm not the only one who thought of the artist rather than the Necromunda gang first.

I rather like this (mis)association.   Maybe I'll  just have to incorporate some M.C. Escher art as graffiti in my Necromunda terrain.
I'd like to build some actual Escher building in 3D, but the laws of physics here are just so harsh around here!

Pseudo-real Escher can be done, but only visible from one direction; makes multi-player difficult. 

Still, I've seen plenty of terrain that just 'didn't look right' from the impossible physics stand point. If only I could get them all together on one table. 

And in case you think *I'm* not appreciative, totally agree on the direction with the figs!

Really nice work.  You've got a very nice contemporary look going on there.  The Escher (and most of the Necromunda line for that matter) are some of GW's best sculpts and they holdup really well against modern figs when given modern paintjobs.

Looking forward to the rest of these.

I have to agree the Necromnda range is just full of timeless classics. We can only hope the newly resurrected Specialist Games Studio feels the same and rereleases them as is.
