The Cimmerian--commission sculpt
« on: 08 June 2017, 07:56:22 PM »
The final sculpt for a figure I recently commissioned, the first of eight planned figures in this series.

Who should I do next?

Nice work! Subotai -- the Hyrkanian Archer!

Crom!

That is the young Arnold in all his magnificence! Will it be possible to acquire the models from you?

That's the plan! Probably late this year when I get the others completed. My scultor is currently working on them...

Glad you like it!

Well, I would love to have him. Been a big fan of Arnie since I saw the movie as a kid! Make sure to get a decent Subotai, Valeria and Mako. There aren't good proxies for those afaik anywhere.

Dark Fable do Conan, Subotai, and Valeria in their Temple of Set collection, plus Thulsa Doom and a pile of Doom cultists

Thanks, I own these and they are really awesome, but they are "historical", i.e. Shown and equipped as if from the Bronze Age. Conan even has a "nordic", i.e. European Bronze sword. Lovely set, but not really lookalikes for the Conan movie.

DivisMal...you and I are on the exact same page. And don't worry, the upcoming figures will maintain the same fidelity you and I appreciate.

Looking good! I think you need to include a version of Arnie sporting his stylish headgear and pulling this iconic facial expression

A Subotai in similar but ill-fitting head gear from the same battle/scene is tempting, but only after I do a more serious version of him.

Actually, when it came to head gear, Subotai doesn't fair too well in the movie!

Crom, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought, or why we died. All that matters is that two stood against many. That's what's important! Valor pleases you, Crom... so grant me one request. Grant me miniatures worthy of my tabletop!

And if you do not listen, then to hell with you!  ;)

Really looking forward to see the full set! Conan is until today one of my favorite movies. (I like it even more in the German synchronization, though 8))

One of mine, too. I remember seeing it in a theater with my dad and my childhood best friend when I was 12. I read the comic book, and so my dad was persuaded to take us. It was like crack to my pubescent mind. I still think the first 30 minutes is some of the purest cinema out there. Milius' masterwork (though I really like "Big Wednesday, too").

That's so true! But I also love the scene where Conan, Valeria and Subotai sneak into the cave. It's the best depiction of a dungeon raid and brilliantly choreographed.

What I really love is that the whole movie does not compromise. It's violent, it's sexual, not necessarily sexy, and it's often amoral. There is no clear good and bad, but shades of gray and the life of Conan in between!

This is an interesting discussion. Makes me want to see the film again, that's for sure. Bibliophile, looking forward to seeing the other sculpts at some point!

Being a big fan of Robert Howard books, I've been greatly disapointed by all Conan movies so far. The movies with Arnie are kinda grotesque to me, they miss by far Howard's spirit, and Arnie is definitely not the one who can impersonate Conan. As for the last one with Jason Momoa shrug ...
But back on the subject your miniature looks fine.
