From the latest newsletter, b*gger was thinking along these lines late last year but couldn't find any figure ranges that inspired me

NEW RANGE Maybe it`s my early childhood memories of the creaky, but charming, Tales of Rubovia puppet series (http://telegoons.org/rubovia/index2.htm) but the Early Periwig period has always appealed to me. And so a small, but comely, 1665-1680 range - named the Glory of the Sun in honour of Louis XIV, The Sun King, the chief hero/villain of the age. It`s a colourful transitional period - with larger armies in very varied uniforms led my the Great Conde, Turenne and Montecuccoli amongst others. There`s a campaign in Tangiers, an English brigade fighting alongside the French, the rise of Prussia and oddities like the perfidious career of the warlike Prince-Bishop of Munster (whose army included Frankenstein`s regiment). Oh dear, the Monmouth Rebellion. Tangiers is interesting but one would need a shed load of suitable Turks. There was a good little article in WI a few years ago. Tangiers was a wedding present from Catherine of Braganza.

Still maybe a few of these might be useful for Palmares.

It's all a bit annoying really because whilst I love Mr Copplestone's work it will be a bugger finding figures that match his sizewise. Given that he's got all nostalgic I wonder if we will see forthcoming ranges of The Pogles or the Magic Roundabout. I for one would buy a 28mm Dougal and Zebedee. Time for bed Boing!

Mark's "Grand Alliance" range, done for Dixon many years ago, is still one of my all time favorite ranges of figures. I am sure they would stand up well to anything he is doing nowadays.

Ok they are seriously nice figures. Dougal and Zebedee can wait. I suspect that I can put together a sizeable force of opponents using the Eureka Turkish pirates, which would match up size wise and have the merit of being fun to paint and relatively cheap. I'm sold.

Beautiful figures, as we'd expect of course and another one of those periods I've always found fascinating ever since I saw a kids series on the telly many years ago, starring Frederick Jaeger as a German mercenary artilleryman in Monmouth's army in the Sedgemoor campaign. I can't wait to see some of these painted in close-up!

My only [minor] gripe is that in common with a lot of Mark's stuff, there isn't a huge variation in figure poses etc, even when they are obviously different sculpts. This is most obvious to me in his Darkest Africa Sikh and RN packs. Splendid figures, but very "samey" 

This is not a problem for "big battles", of course especially in this sort of period, but for skirmishing with Gloire etc I'd like to see a little more variation.

I'll still probably end up buying too many of them to further inflate the lead mountain, though
