Good job, Mike.  Liked your blog post about the weekend.  BTW, I'm the guy facing the camera with the green "FRONT TOWARD ENEMY" t-shirt...

Here are a couple shots from my Balczakistan game

As Mike said, the full AAR is up on my "Modern Stuff" thread...

Last Sunday, my friend Keith (Orcafinn on LAF) ran a What A Tanker game for our Sunday evening gaming crew. The scenario was an unusual "What if?" featuring a fascist coup in Canada during WW II. This prompts an American invasion (again...?).

We had 8 players who laughed and had a good time with our dice rolling failures, questionable tactics, and good old-fashioned ribbing of one another. For more photos and to read the battle report, check out my Lead Legionaries blog:

Well it does seem to be a favourite hobby in the USA of dreaming up ways of conquering Canada - perhaps they think Britain stiffed them by not including Canada in the 1783 treaty of Paris?  lol

Nah.  Just "big" brother pickin' on "little" brother.  Don't mess with either one though.  We'll put aside what differences we may have for that... ;)

My thoughts anyway...

This Friday past, my gaming group played our August game (Mission #8) of our Nam '68 Tour of Duty campaign we are playing this year.  Here are a couple shots from the game.  The full report is up in my "Vietnam Stuff" thread.

Super quick and dirty, first play test of a set of dungeon crawling rules im working on.

I had to tweak some numbers on turn 2 to make it function but then it went surprisingly smoothly from then on. Excited to keep working on it.

This past Sunday, a bit of Robin Hood fun using Fistful of Lead: Bigger Battles:

Where a lot of the fighting happened.

The last remnants of Robin's forces - who technically won the game but the Sheriff held the field ('forest'?) though with a lot fewer deer than when the game started.

Playtest #2 of my adaption of Ganesha Games Sellswords & Spellslingers for Vietnam. First & Second Squads did well, and came away with far fewer casualties than our first mission. Check out my blog for the full story and lots more photos:

If you don't mind me asking, why did you decide to use 'Sellswords & Spellsingers' rather than 'Flying Lead' for your game? Just curious.

Flying Lead is a two-sided game and would require one side to play the US and another the VC/NVA. I wanted it to be all players as US (or Australians, etc.) cooperating against the game system playing the enemy. That's what SS&SS does. The bad guys, so to speak, are handled by the Event Cards and game mechanics.

I ran my Viking Town Raid game using SS&SS and really liked the feel of the game. Through about 16 times running it at various conventions, the players really liked the mechanics and most said they were going to go out and get the rules. The cards, which are flipped on player activation failures on a one-for-one basis, come and go in waves and create a momentum in the game.

Plus, I like the idea of coop games in my old age, and wanted to try out writing a rules set for it...  lol

First time for all involved playing The Barons' War 2nd ed at the FLGS today, using Anglo-Saxon armies with lists cobbled from the 1st ed Conquest expansion (this will get an official 2nd ed update sometime).  Earl Siward of Northumbria vs Earl Eadwulf IV of Bamburgh.

Fun games, rules were learned; as promised, mistakes were made, not so many in the second game.  Definitely worth more plays and getting a better grasp of the system.

We played a couple of games of the Blitz variant (smaller forces, smaller table no vehicles) today.

1. Space Communists (Equality) vs Kleggs (Brutality) - win to Equality thanks largely to weight of numbers. The smaller tables allowed the humble Soldiers of the Revolution to get into Burst range a lot easier and put down enough fire to knock over even the most vicious Klegg.

Above: Kleggs (Brutality) advance

Above: Klegg firelane

Above: Slicey Dicey only goes so far with diabolical rolling - Klegg last gasp charge rebuffed

2. Xenomorphs (Hunger) vs. Mega City One Defence Group (Order). The small table played to the Aliens' strengths as they could get into contact very quickly and start ripping into the citi-def troopers.

Above: CitDef about to lose an argument with a xenomorph

Above: Endgame Xenomorph infestation

All good fun though.
