Good looking cottage  :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
For bases I just use hardboard you can cut and shape it with a big stanely knife don't need a jig saw or anything fancy

Fantastic cottage. A build I've been meaning to do myself. I've built the coaching Inn and townhouse from the old White Dwarfs (a lot of fun I highly recommend them) but never the cottage.

So...will we be seeing a whole village soon? :D

Well, the plan is to try and work my way through the various modelling articles of the time. For now I'll leave it at the two cottages and then go on to make some of the town houses and build up to doing the coaching inn. :)

As Gamer Mac said, you can cut hardboard, MDF or plastic card with a Stanley knife and then I use a Surform to bevel the edges and make them irregular is shape

I have just scanned my very old printed copies of the Cottage, Townhouse, Ruined Temple and Hills & Mines (missing page 1 for making the hill)

Thanks for the offer katie but I believe it only shows how to make the hill from the white insulation foam board and I have made a few hills in my time  :)

Very cool. I built many of the models shown in White Dwarf- I think I had three of every Space Ork building and cardboard vehicle.

Can't say went with that much work on the chimney though!

Nice work so far.
I like the GS work and texturing that you have added so far.

One to follow for sure.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I'm currently stalled on the first cottage as I wait to finish my breakfast cereal so I can then have the packet to cut into roof tiles. It's like being a bloody kid again!  lol The second cottage has finally had the walls rendered and needs a door doing next. Not going to go all in with the stonework on this one though. I'll do a few patches of bare stone and the rest of the chimney will get rendered like the walls.

I've eaten all the bran flakes! Roof tiles a plenty now.  :D

6mm to 10mm are suggested in the WD article. I went with 8mm. 6mm sounded more to scale but looked too small. 10mm just seemed too big. Still not 100% sure I'm happy with the size (of the tiles!!!  ;) ) but hopefully when it's done they'll look ok.

Second cottage is coming along too.

They're looking fantastic, well done! :)

Ah, so heroic-scaled tiles then? Seems appropriate. ;)
