New GW plants and skull terrain/detailing sets
« on: August 19, 2017, 04:28:12 PM »
This is kind of interesting - enough so to merit spending 11 minutes listening to the review, anyway:

The vegetation's probably intended mostly for basing but it has some obvious added utility for dressing up custom terrain.  The flexible plastic that sets up with application of heat & cold is a new thing for GW, curious to try it out.

And of course the skulls box is the Ultimate Games Workshop Product, since you can now add even more skulls to their products - skulls on their socks indeed.  With 340 of them in a box you could even build  a figure composed entirely of skulls.  Yay.

Sarcasm aside, at $25 retail the price point on these things doesn't seem half bad, and the utility is fair to excellent if you like modeling, especially terrain kitbashing.

The video from Games workshop is very good, Duncan gives some simple tips for working with the flexy plastic.

I'm keen to get my hands on some and see what it's like, I sort of wonder if this is their way of trying to experiment with a Bones like material without anyone catching on?
never trust a horse, they make a commitment to shoes that no animal should make.

Sure looks like it, although the GW stuff seems to keep its new shape better than Bones does IME.  Hard to say if that's true in the long term (the video's pretty short) but they seem to intend you to stick them whatever you're bending them to fit, so that should help.

Not that the price is anywhere near Bones, but well, Evil Empires gotta eat, right?  :/

Picked up the skulls pack and was very impressed - as a former 40k player I love the alien skulls included but can easily see a use in wider projects for pretty much everything in there. Personally I'd recommend picking up a pack.
