Climb every mountain...
« on: 30 March 2009, 04:43:04 AM »
Hi,

Just joined the forum, and so that my registration doesn't end up being deleted due to inactivity I thought I'd better post something pronto, so here are some links to my current project, WW1 in Italy.

Working on Austrians and French, with Italians on the way.

Auto-playing music: seriously NOT cool.

Especially on the mountain war blog, where I can't figure out which damn widget is making the racket to shut it up!  :-[

Aside from that, great scenery and period inspiration on both sites - but do please stop the music!

Glad you like the blog, but regarding the music you got me there... ???

I have to say I'm not sure what is happening your end.  I hate auto-playing music on websites myself; I dunno what browser you are using, but the way I set it up on the blog (and I've accessed it on both Safari and on Explorer) the music only plays if- and when- you press the "play" button that appears on the sidebar. Otherwise not a peep.  Is it something to do with QuickTime player settings or something similar??

Is anyone else having this problem?

Really interested in the Austrians and Italians as it is a bit of a forgotten front.  Have you seen the new Brigade Game figures (Paul Hicks again I believe) which look great.

Will be keeping an eye on the blog(s)!

Stavka, when I go to your site my browser (IE, currently) pops up with an alarm thing saying the site is trying to access Windows Media Player, and I have the choice to click to let it do so, or I can carry on in silence. I see no play button. There are red Xs (you know, the missing picture symbol) by the song titles in the sidebar that are not clickable.

Thanks, Plynkes.  I may have to look into this more- I'm no IT guru by a very long shot...

Yes, I received a few last week.  They are gorgeous minis, and extremely well sculpted.  Somewhat pristine uniforms for men in trenches, but no worse for it.  The only real downside for some is that they are at the smaller end of the 28mm "scale" (sic)- they are dwarfed by the Scarab Miniatures Austrians I have, and even by my Brigade Games French (by a different sculptor).  They also seem more suitable for the earlier war period, as neither they nor the Italians are available wearing helmets at present.  They would very likely go well with the Battle Honours WW1 range.

If I was doing early war Austro-Hungarians, they would definitely be the way to go.  But as I'm interested in the 1917 campaigns, most of my minis will probably be from Scarab (which I also think are great).  But I don't mind mixing figures to a certain extent-  Brigade Games' trench mortar is a lovely model, and I just had to have their Italian high command set, which is magnificent.

Beautiful project, thanks for sharing. In Safari the player keeps quiet until activated. The Alpini song is touching indeed.

And by the way, Stavka-san, how are TFL rules? Are they more or less sharing TWaT and IABSM engine?

Thank you, keep posting!
