(Kickstarter) WONDERCUTTER : Ultrasonic Cutter
« on: 14 December 2017, 05:07:55 PM »
Just saw this mentioned on another forum - link

Bit out of my price range, especially with p&p and import and handling duties, but looks interesting. One thing that was missing was the knife being used with a straight edge

Claims to cut pretty much anything apart from glass and metal.

Quote
WONDERCUTTER is a machine that easily cuts materials by lowering the coefficient of friction with 40,000 vibrations per second. We can’t really see, or feel the vibration but it cuts materials with rapid oscillation. Like the waterdrops cut through a rock.

Wow, that's expensive. On the other hand: it's literally exactly the classic sci-fi idea of a "vibro-blade" made real. The future is now!
History viewed from the inside is always a dark, digestive mess, far different from the easily recognizable cow viewed from afar by historians.

Um, why?  Easier - and cheaper - ways to cut.

Interesting. I am not one for having unnecessary tools, but I can see the use for this one (but not for *that* price).

How does an on off switch stop you from slicing your fingers off?!

And I love the person that went the Early Bird instead of the Super Early Bird option.

This was my first thought,
my second one was that the video's production quality and proficiency in English to not match up, the text sounds like something you would see on a aliexpres auto-translated page!

The same way you stop yourself from slicing your finger off with a #11 Xacto blade? :)

I quite like the idea of

"watch your children play with toys you made"

Whilst showing a picture of someone with a young lad hanging his head over his arm whilst he "demos" the thing.

'That's it son, put your neck out, don't worry its got an on/off switch'

"Grandad you try, its easy you don't even need a steady hand to become and expert"

Nice idea though, do they do a Katana version? Stretch goal suggestion maybe?

Sadly I simply don't have the spare cash for it. I will have to remain an amateur, doomed never to reach expert levels.

Give it 6 months after launch* and the Chinese will have it ripped off, in production and on sale for a quarter of that price.

*or sooner if the production of this is done in China.

"...or feel the vibration..."

I wouldn't be able to control myself.
