If you go to http://www.zeitcom.com/majgen/50ship.html you can make your own very cheaply

I'm looking for merchant vessels and pirates.

Also, if anyone knows a company that make "cargo" (barrels, sacks, feed sack looking things, carpets, anything) that info would be great too.

Thanks!

Boats?  Old Glory does some extruded foam that are light-weight, as well as somewhat heavier resin.  The resin ones are multiple levels that stack, so you could do things on different parts of the ship (in the hold or on deck).  They also cost a baby fortune, but do paint up well.

For cargo, gosh, plenty of people do some crates and barrels.  There's the Ainsty line, now distributed by Old Crow http://www.oldcrowmodels.co.uk/ or you can order some of the dungeon dressing stuff from Dwarven Forge, although they are apparently out of stock at the moment.  Wargames Foundry has lots of trade goods in their Darkest Africa Line.  Miniature Building Authority sells crates and barrels.  There are others, I'm just not dredging them up off the top of my head at the moment.

You could make your own using Hirst Arts moulds, or go to a hobby shop that carries doll house accessories or the cutsie-pie things for making those disgustingly adorable shadowboxes and find plenty of things that will serve.  Look in the beads for appropriately shaped beads.  You might also consider doll house rugs rolled up for your carpets.

Great help!

I liked the Old Glory.  You were right, the ones that are in multiple layers are waaay too expensive.

Does anyone else know of multi-level merchant and/or pirate ships for 28mm?

I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but I have been looking forever with no luck.

Speaking of dead horses...anyone know where I can get a dead horse mini?

Again thanks for the help.  Everyone here is cool.  I'm glad I stummbled onto the site.

Flagship Games has some nice ships and other goodies:
http://www.flagshipgames.com/catalog-pirates.htm

They are a bit stylized to make them easier for gaming, and as they are resin they are a bit pricey.

Eureka Miniatures has some ships as well

The alternative is to make them yourself.  It's quite easy with layers of foamcore, plus dowel for masts and much, much cheaper than buying them!  The Gary Chalk plans are good for this, assuming that you can still find them.

Oooo - here's a nifty looking one - and paper, too, so it's cheap as!

You can sometimes find quite good crates etc here :

http://shop.ebay.co.uk/merchant/pmc_games

He hasn't got any listed at the moment. but you could always email him.

He does quite reasonable buildings - good quality and fair price.

As for multi-deck boats, how about making some simple improvised ones by cutting decks from foam and stacking them on top of each other ? You can glue a deck plan to each layer to make life simple.
We did some a few years ago using ? inch plywood, but nailed them together to make solid-hull pirate ships (we weren't bothered about the lower decks)

I've got one PMC boat... it's OK... but not great.

Resin base and balsa sides, so a bit flimsy. Their buildings (and crates if you need them) are great though - I've loads :)

For barrels and crates I was actually quite impressed by the Pegasus ones. They come already painted and you get plenty of barrels for the ?8 the pack cost.

Thanks everyone...you have all been a big help.  Anyone that wants to continue the suggestions, I will be more than happy to look where I'm led.

Thanks again.  Now its time to start another post looking for other things I've been having a hard time finding.

Flogging dead horses? MegaMinis have a Zebra that is the victim/subject of a Lion hunt, it is available as a bare metal single piece and would look OK for a horse when painted right.

As for crates , boxes and barrels, try www.wartornworlds.com.  Cheap, and almost indestructible.  Plus, they look about the right scale.

Have you thought about making your own boats. I made a couple of pirate ships from some templates out of wargames Illustrated. They were quite easy to make. Only they weren't multi-level. I don't know which edition of the magazine it was in but I will have a look. Will post a picture of the ship as well if you are interested.
I used to run a Spell jammer Campaign which had loads of ships. We just used floor plans for the interiors. Loads of which you can find on the web.
