Nice commander vignettes, but the light cavalry steals the show! All are well painted and I mostly like how you did the shields and bucklers! Also your horses are very well done, impressive in their full gallop! Great!

Punic Wars; Hoplites

This summers project for my Punic Wars armies was a box of Victrix unarmored Greek Hoplites. I have had my eyes on these since they came out, so it was nice to finally get to grips with them. The box gives you enough miniatures for 48 hoplites and 8 archers. I think they will end up in two unit of 24, but a massive 48 since unit does have a nice fell to it. As always the models are very well sculpted and easily assembled. Painting was easy and with the beautiful transfers its hard to not end up with a cool looking unit.

At the moment I now have 96 hoplites and some light cavalry and skirmishers. Not enough fore a full Greek army, but as this is the Punic Wars, Syracuse is a more obvious option. That being said I absolutely love hoplites, so I might do another box next summer. Problem is the Romans really need some backup.

Here are a lot of pictures of the hoplites in different formations.

Hope you like them

Cheers
Erik

That's interesting. I've never been able to find any info on the arms and armours of the greeks during the punic wars (only on the macedonians, and I think it's more of a best guess than based on solid archaeological/historical proof). Where did you find it?

Thanks chaps.

I am afraid I must admit to not having done any research on Greek arm and armour during the Punic Wars. Unless of course armylist from wargames count lol.

Another year and another box of Victrix miniatures are ready to join my Punic Wars armies. This year I went for the Samnites. These guys can fight for just about everyone including themselves. I have based them five to a base instead of my usual six. I want them to have the image of being in a more loose formation, than their Roman and Punic adversaries. A bag of unarmored and a bag of armored Samnites gave me enough for 10 bases (two Roman velites joined in as well).

Their first job will be fighting on their own in DBA which is my main thing at the moment. Later I will probably use them to form an Italian allied division in Hail Caesar. As I wrote earlier my Romans need reinforcement so these guys will do just fine.

Cheers
