A new dorf! He still needs a little snow on his base, but I didn't want to wait to share. I plan to use him as a second crossbowman. I've been trying to work on my speed and not be too much of a perfectionist, and in that regard I'm pretty happy with this piece. It took about 3 sessions to complete. I decided on a whim to do an object source light on his backpack, which admittedly is not something I'm great at yet, but I think it turned out passable.

Thanks to everyone for the kind comments in this thread, they really help motivate me to keep painting things and getting better.

Happy Frostgravery!

Very nice work - love the tattoo!

Thanks! I also love that detail, it's actually sculpted on the model.

This guy was a bit of a departure from the rest of the dwarves. Seeing as the model is called 'Magnus the Mystical' I decided to try painting him up in some nice bright high fantasy colors. It was a good exercise in NMM, fun to try a stab at the Rackham style. I'm thinking it might be time to take a group pic of my ever expanding warband of dwarves, but that will have to wait until tomorrow. Until then cheers and happy Frostgravery!

He looks amazing. You're right, a group shot is definitely in order!

I finally managed to take a group shot. I have a lot more dwarves I'd like to paint up and add to the gang, but I'm currently painting a lot of Skaven for general fantasy gaming purposes, and a piece for a painting contest, so new recruits are a few weeks out most likely.

I've been making an effort to create some respectable terrain as well. I made this wire tree after watching some model railroad videos. Those guys are seriously amazing at miniature landscapes. I made a snowy mat (unpictured, I know) as well with a yard of canvas and acrylic paint, an idea I borrowed from Jennifer's Frostgrave thread.

Also a great use for those old CDs in the closet!

Cheers!

Thanks, it really is surprising how convincing twisted wire with a couple coats of acrylic medium can look.

Recently I've been painting lots of Skaven, not spending more than a couple days working on each model, sometimes painting in small batches, all in an attempt to learn to paint faster. I was getting a little burnt out on that however, so this week I took a break and painted this female mage model for a friend. It's from Cadwallon's Legends of Signum game. A great choice for an Illusionist and impressive looking model once finished, but man, not easy to assemble!
