Calling David Bowie...
« on: 15 May 2009, 01:06:46 PM »
Here's a strange request.  One of the guys in my gaming club is looking for a model that looks like David Bowie from the Labyrinth movie - Jareth the Goblin King.  Anyone ever seen something like that?

Hmm, that is a tough one. About the closest I can think of are the "goth elves" from Foundry, but they're still not particularly close.

It's the hairdo that's the problem, I think.

Pics here if someone needs a visual reference... ::)

Depending on how closely your friend wants to match the character, you might be better off finding a model with the right kind of coat or the right kind of face and then sculpting that huge leonine mane of hair with green stuff...

Weren't some of the RT Eldar from GW essentially punk elves? Probably a nightmare to get hold of, but might be worth browsing through SOL for to have a look...

I use a Grenadier Dark Elf.

From Mirliton.
Or indeed, the Foundry revenant elves.

True the hairdo isn't the 80's Wave hair, but why would Gareth always look the same?

I seem to remember Grenadier did a rock group with guns and the singer looked a bit Bowie-ish
Well I've lead an evil life, so they say, but I'll outrun the Devil on judgement day.

I was thinking along the same lines. Some of the older Harlequins might do the trick, too. (Eldar Harlequins, not the miniatures by the now sadly defunct Harlequin company).

Upon mature reflection, the Marauder MM74 Dark Elf Hero figure might fit the bill quite well:

You would have to provide your own frock-coated body, but the MM74 head should work well.

Its long-OP but I've got a spare one if you decide to go that route...

***EDIT***

It also occurred to me that this Hasslefree Sleiti ("Space Elf") might have a useful head for a conversion:

Haha, that is a fantastic modeling idea. What brought it up?

Ive been thinking of doing something simular...but bowie from the 70's...perhaps even an eyepatch.

Bowie is god, afterall.

I think he wants to use the model as a team boss for a Goblin Blood Bowl team.  It seems apt for that character.

Ral-Partha did one years ago.  Called it the Rock star or something similar.
I have one that I got for my Wife since she loves that movie.

The goblins are easy, Ludo I had to sculpt on my own, and I can't find anything like Sir Didimus.
