Re: Outland: A Sci-Fi Project. 'J.Jones Van' WIP (30/08)

As a break from all the Old Skool Space Marines I have been painting lately I thought I would do something completely different and make a new vehicle for Outland.

I had mentioned, whilst playing a Pulp period game with some friends a few weeks ago, that I had been after a 'J.Jones' truck from the Dad's Army series to add to my Interwar vehicle collection.
The following week, when the lads turned up for a game, two of the chaps had obviously been listening to me as they both turned up with one!

Result!
Nice one, chaps!
 :)

As I now had two I thought that I would convert one into a 'futuristic' version suitable for traversing the rough terrain between Outland settlements, so into the bits box I went.
Armed with some suitable parts I chopped the wheels off of the Butcher's van and started adding bits.

An hour or two later this is how far I had got.....

I am still going to add an armoured windscreen and a bull bar/dozer blade attachment to the front but will start painting it first so I can get a brush into areas that will be difficult to reach if I add these parts first.

And, yes, I am keeping the 'J.Jones' logo intact.
 ;)

Is it just me, or do you put a different emphasis on how you say 'family butcher' when it's the apocalypse?

Love it.

Depends on how hungry you are, I suppose.

Thanks, chaps.

I found a bit of spare time yesterday to get the first bit of painting done.
I still have to sort out the bull bars/ram thing for the front and a windscreen and find something that fits in those wheels, but it is getting there.

Looking good!
I used the head of a disposable razer for bull bars,
 just a suggestion.

I had not thought of that, even though I have quite a few razor blade covers in my bits box...

I have already added something a little more 'substantial' to the front, though, which may not be to everyone's taste, but I like it.
 ;)

Just basing it up today (hopefully!) and then it is final picture time.

The work on the 'J.Jones' Butchers Truck has finished.

A (much larger than originally intended!) 'cowcatcher' attachment has been added to the front as I thought it fitted well.
It may not be to everyone's taste, but I like it.

All ready to set about making those deliveries in the wilds of Outland...
