WW2 German Colour Photos
« on: 07 June 2009, 03:49:47 AM »
All the colour-film images I've seen to date (as far as I can remember) have been from the Western Allied side - given that colour film was invented in Germany it must have been used there, but there really don't seem to be many surviving colour images from that side of WW2.

Due to Everyone's Favourite Crooked-Armed Cross in a few of them, I won't link directly, but if you go to the Telegraph's World News Galleries page and look for the June 5th 2009 gallery called "Unseen Hitler photos" you'll find them for now.

(Given that these are genuine historical photos in a news/history context, would linking to them or displaying them run foul of German law?)

As they are historic photos used to document history I wouldn't think so. After all, you can buy lots of remembrance books of the various divisions (even SS) in book stores and they have lots of photos.

Incidentally I have a big photo book of the history of the Waffen-SS with a few colored photos in there. Nice to see some of the camo in color.

I've seen a few German colour videos, but never any pictures. And like Doomhippie said, it should be fine.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Direct link to the Telegraph's WW2 colour photo gallery, because it seems likely not to get LAF in trouble.

(Admins: If I'm in error and this direct link is verboten, go ahead and nuke it, there's the indirect link in my first post still. Thanks!)

Interesting. I always tend to forget that the world was actually in color in the 1930s and 40s. Of course not black and white like most photos from that time.
