The main banner at the front is a slab of metal from grenadier back in the day.
There are two fluttering banners at the back. Each is comprised of two long ribbons at the top, a large rectangular flag and then a row of pennants/bunting in alternate colours getting shorter as you go lower. I wanted a truly confused mass of flags full of energy, not a limp flat hanging flag.
Each flag is printed on my inkjet printer. The flag /pennants are mirrored then cut out and folded over the brass flagpole and glued together, but i place a sheet of kitchen foil in the middle of the paper sandwich. This makes the banner stiffer and easier to bend as it will keep shape better. I use watered down PVA as glue nothing else. Spraying the printed sides with a gloss varnish before glueing helps to stop the ink running with the wet glue.
The design on the front started out as a decal (water slide transfer) but I messed up and printed it on clear rather than white paper. I had to go back and paint the white in the black surround. White ink is your friend for this - so much smoother than white paint.
