Review: Biker Gang by West Wind
« on: June 13, 2009, 02:19:59 AM »
Please forgive the crossposting (here and Other Adventures), but I thought a number of zombie and post-apocalypse gamers might be interested in a biker gang, so here we are.

This week at the Screaming Alpha we get our motor running and head out on the highway with a huge 25mm biker gang box set from West Wind. This massive set contains ten metal bikers and their bikes, with a wide variety of separate heads, weapon arms, and front bike forks allowing for many customization options. Are these bikers true Wild Ones or do they deserve to plunge to the bottom of the Snake River Canyon? Follow the link for the supersized review and accompanying mountain of photos.

A very balanced and well put together review,

Gives a good idea of what you go through in getting the product to the table,

liked it a lot, You could make an informed decision based on that

Good review Curryman. It basically confirms what I had guessed from the pictures on the West Wind website and a few comments from other people (unrepeatable here as they were on Frothers). Basically, yes, they are good vlaue, but unfortunately, you get what you pay for.  :?

I'm wondering if these are the same biker figures Overlord uses for his Mad Max tanker pursuit game...  ???

Because those were rather good.

Or maybe he just put a lot of work into tidying them up...  ;)

I actually used the same models as some bikers and allthough the riders don't fit very well to the bikes, the set is defenitly worth the money inho. Not only because of the insane amount of bikes you get, but also al the different weapon arms and heads (although some of those are a bit dire...)

Anyhow, these pictures have been here before, but it never hurt to resurrect them :)

Why aim for gold if you can get lead?

Yes, they are the same miniatures.

They are a bit of a pain to put together, but the bike/rider/weapon variations (in the pack I bought) are pretty useful:

I found that some rider/bike combinations went together better than others.  With 10 bikes & riders there was alot of test fitting to get the best combinations.  I also did some minor conversion work on mine (mostly weapons)

@Braxandur Those are some very impressive-looking bikers. I like the truck as well, it fits with the bikes beautifully. Are those some em4 savages in the truck bed? If so they look pretty good as bikers. That never would have occurred to me.

@Overlord Thanks for the pic of all the various parts. I was wishing that I had taken one before I got stuck in assembling them. I certainly think that you're right about some arm/torso combinations working better than others. I had just blithely assumed that every arm could fit every biker and ended up with some bare arms on sleeved bikers and vice-versa! I covered it by painting "sleeves" on the mismatched arms and it seems to have worked as nobody has noticed thus far. Of course I still feel like a bit of a dope for making such an obvious blunder, but c'est la guerre...

Yes, the guys in the truck are from em4. The savages  are not the best bikers look alikes, but when painted in the same style, the models go together quite well.

Besides savages EM4 also has Bikers:
http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/BIKERS.html

I have a set and unfortunately got some wrong front wheels (with vampire skulls and such on them). I haven't gotten around to painting any but I think the bikes look good. The bikers could do with some new heads (which is what I'll try to do) or at least some new hair (long hair to match my other models). The weapons aren't perfect either but those are easily swapped as well.

You are right there, Obelisk produces a set with the guys from the discovery channel show "american chopper"

A nice looking bunch. Never got around to painting them, but they do look great.

@Pil My word, your set also had mismatched bike forks? Sounds like the good folks at West Wind need to pack their boxes with a little more care, eh?

I actually just finished painting those em4 bikers. They're nice if a bit on the chunky side. Some of the guys are built almost like Orcs! Look for a review in the near future.

Yeah, I got those horror forks but I thought they were supposed to be in there so I didn't notice it at first, it was a bit disappointing though ;)

Still should work out if I ever get around to painting them 8)
