28mm Zulu Figure Compatibility
« on: June 15, 2009, 02:51:27 AM »
Just discovered/registered for this forum.  Planning on getting back into miniature gaming after a lengthy absence and need opponents for my Anglo-Zulu War British figures from Black Tree and Foundry purchased several years ago.  I am considering using the plastic Zulus from Wargames Factory for the masses and Empress Miniatures metals for the leaders, characters, specials, etc.  I have never seen these Zulu figures in the flesh and hope someone can enlighten me as to whether figures from these two manufacturers could be mixed within a unit.  Would anyone know of comparison photos on the web?  I need roughly 400 figures and would hate to find out they wont mix after purchase.

Thanks,
Lead(And Maybe Plastic)Lust

Any update on the size comparison between empress and wargames factory plastic zulus? I would like to make the zulus using the plastics and the Empress stuff for special characters etc.

Cheers

Crikey, sir. I'm looking forward to today. Up diddly up, down diddly
down, whoops, poop, twiddly dee - decent scrap with the fiendish Red
Baron - bit of a jolly old crash landing behind enemy lines - capture,
torture, escape, and then back home in time for tea and medals.

How do Old Glory or BTD Zulus match up with the Empress Zulu miniatures?

Thanks Chaplain.  Good comparison pic.  Glad to see the Wargames Factory British matched well with the Empress British.  Assuming the Zulus are accordingly scaled, I've got my answer.  Nice painting on the finished lead by the way.

I don't have any Empress Zulus but I will assume that  the OG's will match up nearly the same and the Black Tree Design Zulus might be a tad bit taller/chunkier than empress.

I've got an Empress Brit and an OG Zulu & a BTD Zulu and they look pretty similar to me.

Check out the picture and decide for yourself.

Once they're painted and mixed in I can't tell the Old Glory Zulu apart from the BTD Zulu.

The lack of photographs of the BTD zulu and the Old Glory zulu at their own website is very frustrating.  How does a company expect to sell their product when they can't even invest in a digital camera and put up a couple of nice photographs?  It is really amazing how some of these companies are able to stay in business with the tough global economic climate! :-[

I think it is more of a question of bandwidth, mate.

Though, yea, I rarely buy miniatures unless I can see them first.

If you want to see pictures of most of the Old Glory ranges, you have to hit their American site.

Here are their Zulus.

That's great! Thanks for posting the comparison picture. It looks like I can quite confidently mix Empress and Wargames Factory plastic.

Cheers

Fuzzy.
