Looking forward to the upcoming ARVN, been thinking about camo patterns & the BDQ camo for the Vietnamese Rangers seems like an appropriate one to have a crack at, slightly similar to ERDL (from a distance).

Had a go on a spare figure ( although after trying to make it look a bit grubby and faded can hardly see the patten.

Just found this (could have done with tit a couple of years ago...), great photos of pretty much all the kit & uniforms worn by US in Vietnam.
Eight pages in cronological order

I think the amount of copies, some excellent and some bizarre, of western camouflage patterns produced in the back streets of SE Asia in the 60s and 70s, gives you free rein to do whatever you want. A bit like you can see in the middle east/Afghanistan nowadays.

Like the seemingly endless varieties of 'Tiger Stripe' pattern.
I think the BDQ should/could look suitably different from ERDL & any other patterns I've tried on this range.
Here's a couple of pictures of it 'clean'.

Also found some place mats in a pound shop thought they might chop into something useful; along with some chop sticks, kebab skewers & some off cuts of balsa + CA made this:

I think the roofline maybe a tad high.

Stand it next to a few tall trees when you place it, it won’t be that noticeable.  I like it though….looking good.

I also like how in the same unit, they are wearing different camo patterns. And Also how the guy in the top photo with the grenade looks to be waring a baby blue neck scarve.
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

Cheers Dave. Managed to talk myself out of trying to cut it down, so made another one shorter instead. The tall one can go directly on the ground without the stilts. Going to put them on A4 bases, so pleanty of room for trees & paths etc.

The scarves seem to be quite a prominent feature in period photos, lots of red ones. I'm assuming its a company or battalion recognition thing.

The Airfix Jungle Outpost lives! Very nice.

Now, just in case you haven’t seen it, this is a very useful site for painting all things ARVN, especially rangers:

Thanks for those links Carlos, should come in handy.

Here's the Mk II hut so far, bit shorter. Using the roof from the first attempt. MK I hut will get a more stunted roof.

I still have 'plagiarize Digit's big trees' on my list of things to try scenery wise. You made some great jungle pieces for that project (and every other project - WW2 scenery is inspiring).

Re these huts; I've got some texture on the bases, waiting for it to dry. Then I suppose some grit and primer, followed by attack of the craft paint. At least there are no sand bags on these...

Those huts are great! Reminds me of scratch-building my own huts back with my SE Asian Pulp campaign. Good stuff!!
