Games with Heroes

I am new to the forum and I am finding quite a bit of fascinating material. A question I have that I have not come across so far is, how do you run games with a heroic figure in them? I am thinking of Zorro, the Lone Ranger, the Cisco Kid, etc.

Do you have one player take the Hero, or is he played by a Gamemaster/Judge instead? Do you keep his identity secret or does everyone know who and where he is? Just curious as to the best way to handle this type of game and I'm looking for ideas. Thanks for any comments and suggestions.

That's a tough question to answer as a lot depends on what type of game you are running.

In Gloire, the player would control Zorro along with any sidekicks (like the padre) he might have. An opposing player would have the military and be trying to stop him. Or, the gamemaster would have the military.

The only reason to hide his identity would be for a scenario specific reason. You could have players controlling multiple army squads while hunting for Zorro. The gamemaster could then be moving models about the board which the army has to try and stop and question until they catch the hero (or he gets away).
