Good to see the Prof back in Africa. High time I joined him I reckon, since this LPL business is now over.

Gorgeous paint !  Very interesting treatment of the weapon.  I never would have thought of painting it as bone.  Is that your own interpretation, or do you have access to an Azande source/book that I have missed ??

Keep it up, don't let the Russians distract you.

Just my interpretation, it looks like bone to me.

btw, I don't have any Azande source book at all, so feel free to recommend some good reads, please, if you know any.

Alex,

The only single source I've found for dress, shields, tactics etc  is the one Foundry did in their "Victoriana" booklet a few years ago, but I fear it is out of print.

I think Chris Peers' Azande article is also still available from their website. Sadly the "Foundry Library" is "currently undergoing re-construction", bur may be worth checking later.

If nothing happens soon on the Foundry site PM me, as I have downloaded it and can e-mail a zip file to you if required.

African Arms and Armour by Christopher Spring has black and white photos of those weird Azande kpinga throwing knives (which were apparently used as currency) and also the mambeli scimitars such as the one our fellow here is waving about. Both of these have blades made of iron (though some of the throwing knives are made of copper when they are only going to be used as currency).

Foundry used to sell this book I think, but I don't know if they still do. I've found it quite useful as it has page of Masai shield designs in colour, which I refer to when doing mine.

African Arms and Armour by Christopher Spring has black and white photos of those weird Azande kpinga throwing knives (which were apparently used as currency) and also the mambeli scimitars such as the one our fellow here is waving about. Both of these have blades made from a single piece of metal.

It used to be the same price as a pack of figures and had a voucher which you could use to exchange for a pack, if I recall correctly. It is a very useful book, but could have done with concentrating more on "colonial" subjects, rather than ACW etc.

Sorry? I don't get you. ACW? Do you mean the American Civil War? The book I'm talking about has nothing like that in it. It's entirely about African weapons.

Sorry, my mistake entirely. This comes of answering your post without actually looking at it, due to having too many beers watching the Lions actually win a match  ::)

I do apologize sincerely for causing confusion.

That book is one I want, but haven't saved up for yet.

I'll get me coat......

So you simply used a generic answer that goes for most Foundry publications..??  :o  lol   ;)

I find that usually works. When it doesn't you look a complete fool   lol
