Abu's Eastern Front (13 July 13 update)
« on: June 18, 2013, 02:27:08 AM »
Cheers.

Finally finished something for once. It's been a tough year for completing projects, but hopefully painting will pick up over the summer.

Getting ready for another BG Kursk outing. This time with air.

I'm an inexperienced aviation modeler, and if that cockpit on the Stuka is anything to go by, I'll likely remain one.  Should have a bunch of new armor and some specialty troops--NKVD blocking party, wire teams, medical, etc.--done in the next few days.

What scale are those?  They look huge compared to the other minis in the background.

They're 1/72, just like all the armor behind them. Though to the left there are a bunch of stands of 10mm Crusades stuff awaiting some basing material.

Here are a few more pics in natural light.

I like the look of both, especially the Stormovik.
Good stuff!

Lovely work on your collection. Planes really do enhance the game.

Thanks Helen and Mosca, now for my next installment, a long one... It's been a productive week. First the Soviets

KV-8

BA-10

A battery of Sukas

A little closer in. Might do some more detailing on these...

Some medical assistance. Warmodelling figures I think.

Soviet wireless team

A DBIED-- Dog Borne Improvised Explosive Device.

Soviet Engineers in body armor

Now the Germans...

Some recon platforms.

Some staff rides...

An ambulance.

A couple Nebelwerfers

An FO TM

Wire TM

And finally, the German Wireless TM.

Photos aren't the best, but as can be seen I've been filling out a lot of the specialist teams that I think make BG rules so much more satisfying than some others.

Thanks von L.  And now for the next installment

First the Germans this time:

Some transpo...

The Flakvirling...Any ideas for a good crew?

The Panzerwerfer 42. This one was really fun.

Now the Soviets.

How do you like ZIS?

ZSU 37...Probably needs some pigment weathering...Again, ideas to source a good crew?

Scouts out...

A little closer view of these Zvezda plastics...

And lastly, a somber vignette, the NKVD. Though aside from the massive hand/finger on the officer, I think it's great set, sculpturally. Might need another spritz of the Dullcoat.

Gaming on Sunday, so expect a few battle reports. Hopefully I'll get all this stuff on the board at some point during the day.

Again, beautiful (the weathering, basing and NKVD). For the Flakvierling maybe some crew from an 88 set? For the ZSU 37, no idea - first time I've seen that kit (can you tell I've learnt all I know about WWII vehicles from FoW?).

A few action shots from a recent game. Played right out of the scenario section, Meeting Engagement, I think.

Very lopsided dice. I hd trouble rolling low. Lots of 5s and 6s. My Russian opponent, on the other hand, had the opposite luck.

Lovely paint jobs :-* :-* :-*
AB miniatures for the crew, they may do something suitable.
Can I ask which paints you use?

Thanks, everyone.

Hey Steve- Those are actually some of the first boards I ever worked on, way back--they are in the collection of an old high school teacher of mine whom I game with from time to time. My new ones aren't ready yet--still shaping/sealing them for the most part--but I expect we'll play over them soon.

grant- The Stuka is the 1/72 Revell kit IIRC.

Mac- They're all painted with Vallejo for the most part. Let me know if you're looking for something more specific.
