@Grimmnar: (which almost translates "ugly idiot" in my language  lol)

All of my other vehicles and airplanes are either 1:43 or 1:48.

1:43 is common toy car scale and 1:48 is a much more common scale for airplanes or helicopters than 1:56.

And finally - I find that 1:56 is a bit too wee for (most) 28mm models (even more so if you use GW bases).

But as long as your scaling is consistent it wont look odd I guess..  o_o

Anyway - Akula's stuff is looking great, whatever the scale.  :)

Its really down to what you think looks right - for me its got to be 1/56th - Note that i've got them on plasticard bases, which negates the effect of the minis being based up....

....and yes, I am planning on gaming Yonkers at some point, but i'm still a bit short of 3 million zombies....

After reading World War Z, I wouldn't drive any vehicle, including an M1 tank, into a zombie horde.

HA! Just half right. And i am not gonna tell ya which half either.

I figured this is what you were going to say. The 1/56th scale is a "new" scale in the industry. The 1/48 seems to be the more accepted scale. And not just for slotta bases but when you use the "thicker/chunkier" brands of figs i can see why. I really myself like the 1/56. Prob is, your so used to looking at a 1/48 scale kit to a fig for years. Then you go and see said vehicle in real life and think "hmmmm, it really isnt that big in person now is it." I have had that happen a few times personally. Problem also with the 1/56 is that there isnt alot of it out there.

Anyway - Akula's stuff is looking great, whatever the scale.  :)

And you are damn skippy spot on with that comment. he sure does some fine work indeed. When i extrat the essence from some of the LAF members to add to my own Akula will be in line. Need all the skill, talent, motivation and soul i can steal from you all.  :-)

Usually the 1/48 scale is the most accepted scale i can see. Now with that said depends on what your playign with as well. I see too many times that 40K players think that 1/35 is the better scale. But that goes back to my earlier comment about thicker/chunkier figs. :-)

That's quite the mobile force you've got lined up there, Akula! I'd go for more support vehicles though.

Once again, Akula raises the bar for the rest of us. Thanks a bunch ya lousy... [grumblegrumble]

Seriously, top work on both tanks and board. I've been pondering picking up some hummers and maybe a Stryker or two for my zombie games, but finding the right scale has been a sticking point.

As for the utility of tanks vs. zombies, I think the sheer mass and steel treads would be the M1's most effective weapon against huge hordes of the undead. I find it extremely unlikely that any conceivable quantity of puped humans could bog a 50+ ton armored vehicle. Much as I loved the Yonkers scene in WWZ, I did rather wonder why the tracks didn't do more back-and-forth squish attacks. Against enemies too dumb and slow to get out of the way it seems like that would be horrifyingly effective.

For me the biggest weakness of armor vs. zeds is strategic. As long as your fuel holds out you're basically invincible against zombies if you're inside an armored vehicle (assuming you don't bog on some terrain or building), but those babies need regular refueling, and they need regular maintenance. Once the supply system breaks down that fuel and those spare parts won't last very long, even assuming there's a secure base in which to do those activities.

Still, while the party lasted a platoon of M1s would be quite an asset, especially against rogue human elements like gangers or militia types.

i've got 3 more trucks, and 2 more strykers to build, plus some flatbeds.  And of course the mobile lab is missing from these shots.

That's my back up plan....  if you don't buy the getting stuck in a puddle made out of thousands of squished zeds, I can always make the fuel a very limited commodity!  You probably noticed the fuel truck to the right of the shot....it could well be empty.  When i get around to running a campaign, fuel, ammo, and food stores will all play a part, so the group will have to carry its own stores, which means a nice long snaking convoy, that needs to be protected - both from zeds, and desperate survivors.

Besides, i'm planning on other potential opponents than plain old zombies..... ;)

Excellent. Can't wait for them. Ah, yes, that's true too.

Do I sense some L4D inspiration around the bend?

Amongst others.  One man's Witch, is another man's Liche...

 lol

Apart from Romero films, Max Brooks novels, and L4D, i'm also taking my inspiration from Brian Keene/David Wellington novels.

Nice!

Now I'll have to go and finish off the Stryker MGS turret systems...  I've been very tempted to also do a uparmored Hummer, or one of the newer Army Transport prototypes.

Now, I know they are for anti-Tank.  But they also have the ability to do canister shot.. which might help shred a few zeds.

Also, there is the new Stryker being planned by the Army that uses the 20mm Bushmaster in a remote turret.  That may provide some needed backup.

Hi Brent,

A MGS Stryker would be lovely (for those that haven't seen it, its got a bloody great big gun on it - would do for futuristic games!)

I'd suggest avoiding Humvees - there is too much competition already - TAG/Fenris both have 1/55th, plus there is Imprint, FOA?, and S&S... in various from 1/50th to 1/60th.

A new army prototype, or even a mastiff in 1/56th would be an excellent addition.

Reminds me, must paint up those other strykers!

 :D

Regards

Matt

That's my problem with the whole book actually. It only works until you stop and think about any of what's going on. :) For all the much ballyhoed "realism" in that book (and especially the unfortunately popular Battle of Yonkers) it's all just waving a magic wand so the author can have his zombie apocalypse. :D
