Strangle title I know but all will be explained.
We have been buying pizzas from Tesco recently and they come with a black polystyrene base. I have been wondering how to recycle them usefully.

I have wanted some city buildings myself for a while, and after playing a .45 pulp game in a city setting, built by Oldschoolrebel, I thought I would give overlords brick scribing method a try.
The polystyrene base is about 4 mm thick and quite ridged. It is easy to cut but still holds the detail well as it is quite tightly compacted.

First floor finished with figure for scale.

What I am not sure of is whether to put in windows and doors. Also if I decide to put in windows how do I make them?
Usually I would just blank off the window, build a frame and the paint a glass effect.
But I am thinking for this one I would like to be able to use the inside of the building for gaming. I think it would be better to be able to see through the windows.
The question is should I try and glaze them with clear plastic (Blister pack plastic) or just leave them empty?

I copied Overlords method.
Paint the brick wall a light colour for the mortar. I used a house hold paint Dulux "shoft coffee" because it was nice and thick and filled in the gaps really well.
Then I used a flat (10mm) dry brush and GW terricota. Dry brush at a 45 degree angle to the bricks so that the paint does not go into the gaps. I then painted a few of the bricks normally using various different colours, GW terricota agian,GW Dark flesh and GW Bestial brown. The front and back of the building was painted with GW Denbe stone and then washed with GW Derlavin mud (not sure if I have spelt these two right).

I think I can get some acetates at work. I suppose I can then print stuff on to the window as well

we have a tesco quite close to us and i love pizza, so it's too good an opportunity to pass up.

If you want to stick with the recycling theme you could use the plastic from blister packs of figures. That is normally what I turn to for "glass". An added bonus is that it gives you an excuse to buy a few more packs of lead. Foundry blisters work the best.

Very nicely done.   

Spot on with the pizza packaging.  I've had a go with it aswell & although its slightly thinner than the foam I used for my buildings, it has a greater density.  Every time I buy a pizza now I keep the packaging.
See, I'm not the only one with a brick fetish.

Perhaps I should have commissioned you to build the City for the .45 game... although I don't think I would have been able to afford it!

I'm going to give that technique a go. Is the base polystyrene as well or is that hardboard?
