Pizza Boxes for Corrugated Metal - HELP!!
« on: July 28, 2009, 08:06:28 PM »
I read it in here somewhere in here,(and, of course, I can't find it now), that pizza boxes make great corrugated metal for scenery.

So I went and ordered two large Pizza Hut pizzas. Got the family a meal and, hopefully, myself some corrugated tin to rust up for my gaming table.

Opening the boxes revealed smooth inner sides.

Did I order pizza from the wrong company? Or is there a secret method for removing a layer of the cardboard to expose the so-wanted corrugated texture?

HELP!

Go to a craft store - the sort full of silk flowers and scrapbooking bits - and buy a "ribbler". They are very cheap and then you can "corrugate" as much card as you need when you need it.

"Do you mean this thread?
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=12124.0" -- Very nice, but no that was not the tread. It was a zombie thread where questions were raised about the fencing.

"UK based supermarket" -- I swear I'm living on the wrong side of the pond. I'm going to have to move and make Matakishi my next door neighbor.  :)

They are also called "crimpers". Here is an expensive one on Amazon

I would be amazed if Michaels didnt have one. I just use my wifes :)

Michaels should carry the crimper, I got mine at Walmart. For that matter just look around for B flute corrugated wrap at a local shipping store, for the $10 a crimper costs I got a 4"x20' roll.

Well, I do not know about you guys, but I get giant rolls of corrugated cardboard in various sizes ordered in from my friendly neighborhood art store, which I already spend too much time in.

Another good source would be regular cardboard boxes if you're fine with slightly larger corrugation.

Well i live on the west side of the pond but i am unsure what a "ribbler" is. I can say if you go to Michael's and AC Moore you will find such tools to turn normal paper into what you need. Friskars makes one i know of. Go to their web sites and look up "paper crimper" or name of said tools. They will run ya about 20 bucks. So look for the 40 and 50% off coupons. And they can be used in each other's stores. Keep that in mind as well. :-)

Do you have a supermarket anywhere near you? Head to the tuna section, look for the packets of tuna that come 12 or so to a cardboard display sleeve. Inside that sleeve is a protective crimped cardboard piece that will meet your demands, and the market people will be just fine w you takin them.

I recommend going with the crimper. I just got one by Fiskar last weekend from Hobby Lobby. $19.99 and a 40% off coupon. I'm loving it. It'll crimp cardstock, pieces of pop can, and aluminum foil. The heavy duty aluminum foil works great. I'm using it for HO scale builds.

If you've got pizza boxes sitting around, you could always do this to them:

Couple more pictures at the bottom of this page here and a bit of text.

Yes, the two boxes still close up properly - designing the walls so they intersect when the things close is the hardest part of the design.

The packaging on pizza boxes may vary by region. I know that I get most of mine in the Pizza Hut "calzone" boxes. Craft stores, scrap booking or paper stores are a great idea too. Pizza boxes are great cardboard though. I built a whole 15mm WW2 town out of two.

I've gotten it into my head to do something very close to that. A warehouse? Or a cubical office suite of a place where I got downsized?  >:( lol lol Love to run a game where my players can shoot that place up. (no I am NOT postal)
