TERRAIN TEST for Safari
« on: July 19, 2009, 08:27:24 AM »
Hello boys (and girls ?)

Some sample shots of my future safari game....Miss Mapple looking for her husband

With my home made jungle (not finished) and a "grass"  imitation sheet for the ground... ;)  stolen to my wife   >:D

That's nice! I like the mixture of plastic and natural parts in the terrain. It looks really good.  :)

I'm not so much a fan of sheets as ground, however, I do have the luxury of having enough space to store the odd gameing table in my basement. Otherwise I would probably also use a sheet. And it actually does the trick. So good job and keep on building terrain.

And I hope Ms Mapple finds her husband eventually (Hm, shouldn't it be Mrs Mapple?)  ;)

Hello all, been thinking of signing up for a while but had to do it now to ask this question:

How did you do the trees with the 'bumpy' trunks?

Hello all, been thinking of signing up for a while but had to do it now to ask this question:

How did you do the trees with the 'bumpy' trunks?

the small palm trees are coming from cake decoration (bought by numbers at a professional dealer for bakery material) and the trunks are wrap with small string.

the big ones,  are made with a small and long pine cone as trunk...keep natural. Too difficult to find in a wood so i bought them in a decoration store for the house and garden.....
The top received long plastic grass as foliage.

natural lichen is used to cover the jungle base.

The ground sheet looks much better than it should, if you see what I mean. It actually gives the illusion that the jungle is denser and more oppressive. A good compromise between ease of play and too many terrain features

That's a lovely set up and please post a report when you play a game  :)

Great looking pictures. I like the use of the pine cone husks!! I have a number of them myself, now I just need to get them put together for my palm trees. Thanks for sharing!!

They look awesome. Great work. The green leafy material works quite nicely as well. Do you have pictures of the tops of the pine-cone palm trees? I have skinned down about 2 dozen but not sure how to proceed with attching tops, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance and thanks for sharing.

as request, this the top of the trees :

abrasive sponge are added to the base of grass hidding the glue and staples

the plastic grass are glue and stapple together to prevent moving during the gluing operation on the pine cone central spine.

for finition, woodland scenic hide the staples

then a spray of varnish bomb and this is it !
