Bronze Age Winter Fantasy. Attack of the snow trolls
« on: 04 July 2020, 08:46:28 AM »
Bronze Age Winter Fantasy.

This is a parallel thread to my Bronze Age Winter War thread on the Age of gods, myths and empires board.(https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=125281.0)
I know that a certain amount of fantasy is ok on that board but as i was not sure where this slightly Runequest/Glorantha and Micheal Moorcock/Rodney Mathews inspired journey was leading i thought it was better to split it.

These Minifigs tunnel elves are the 1st miniatures i ever bought in 1978 when i was 12 years old and this is the 3rd time i have painted/repainted them.
I have replaced the original shields and also the crossbow as the original was bloody awful.

I have just picked up a few more of these from ebay but they are also available again directly from Minifigs.

This giant is from the CMON Blood Rage boardgame. I painted it a couple of yeras ago but decided it fitted better in this setting so i have rebased it and repainted the rock.

Here is how it looked before.

Here are a couple of "set in scene" photos

and here you can see the tunnel elf leader negotiating with some greek adventurers from Massalia.

More photos of these  and similar miniatures are to be found on the parallel thread.

Nice  8)

It’s good to have off shoots of a main project. Gives it a bit more impetus  :)

Always loved that giant miniature - yours might be my favorite painted version, nicely done!

Gorgeous looking minis.

I particularly like the minimalist painting on the new Reaper minis... :P

More seriously, though, that some great painting and a nice set up for the photography as well.

Personally I find it hard not to paint the translucent minis and just leave them as is. Ideally I'd like to put a bit of paint on them to detail them a bit but still leave parts translucent. I haven't figured out how to do it to my satisfaction, though, so so far I just end up painting them as normal.

Strange I thought I'd posted a reply ... my connection must have failed!

+1 on your photography setup, it's worthy of some pro quality toy photography stuff, you mind sharing what kind of camera and lens you're using?

Nice work on the Elves.  The "set-in scene" pictures are brilliant.

I found this fantastic artwork on Artstation by Alexandre Chaudret - https://www.artstation.com/artwork/QK8r - and i knew i had to see if i could build something similar.
Have any of you been inspired by some non-hobby artwork and tried to build it?

I had a Wargames Atlantic skeleton sprue lying around that was the perfect start. I added robes using tissue paper soaked in PVA glue and dark brown paint and some fur out of greenstuff. Paint comes next.

What a great project, and find painting all around! I really like the scenes you've set up. Glad to see the tunnel elves. I have been eyeing some of the old Minifigs range for a while. I didn't realize they were so short. The undead look like they're going to turn out really well too. Looking forward to seeing more.
