Cheap acrylic paint
« on: July 16, 2020, 08:32:01 PM »
Greetings all,

I am looking for a source for cheap acrylic paint(or possibly even poster paints). This is for large terrain projects, painting base features and for DIY flock making.

Any online suggestions greatly appreciated.

Regards.

I have been thinking on this myself.  I’m thinking of taking a particular GW colour I use for all my basing to B&Q and have them mix up a large tin to match it.

I use cheap acrylics from the local craft and sewing supply store. Usually $1 - $1.50 for 2 Fluid Oz (59ml), and they have a pretty wide range of colors; including a metallic range and some effects (cracking, thick gloss, etc) paint options. Not sure how it stacks up to small pots of paint, which can be matched, but they do the trick for me. If you have an art supply store around, you can probably also pick up student acrylics by the liter. Just depends on how much you need/want.

Craft paints come in much larger containers and can go a long way for a modest sized terrain project.  There is usually a workable brown and green and then just add your surface flocking - no glue required.

For a really large project, least expensive household, interior grade acrylic paint from a Big Box store is the better option.  Properly cared for, the paint can last for years.  Just make sure to open old cans in a well-ventialted OUTDOOR space or you might be sleeping in the garage for a week or two!
