Does anyone know how to sever them from their bases without destroying their feet?

I just slice them off using a craft knife. I've heard some people say they put them in the freezer first as this helps make the glue brittle. I've never done this myself so I don't know if it helps.

I use a pair of side cutters to cut away the base so that only a small bit is still attached to the feet and then cut that bit off and sand the bottoms of the feet.

Much, much safer than some of my x-acto attempts.
