Especially in the first half of the war, flechettes were very common, since a lot could be carried at less weight than the bombs then available. I don´t know if DH2s used those (lovely model, btw, I´ve got a nieuport by Smêr and have my eyes on their Fiat CR32 for the Nationalists), but I´ve seen pics of DH2s carrying bombs, so flechette canisters would be sensible as well.

If you´re interested, I´ve got some nice pictures of flechettes I could scan if you wish to be more precise than needlepoint ones... those Time-Life Aviation Books rule.

To be honest I wasn't sure whether DH2s were ever used to drop bombs or anything, but as my campaign is quite "Pulp" and non-historical I wasn't too worried about it.

The DH2 is just representing some other plane (I believe seaplanes were used in the real fight for the Tanganyikasee). I picked it because it looks primitive, the sort of thing that might end up in a backwater theatre in Africa.

But of course, in real life in 1916 it was the ultimate in Entente flying technology, the answer to the dreaded Fokker Scourge.

Anyhow, on to the Belgian part of the project. They've finally got their act together and assembled their own steamer to face the German ships.

Got this girl from TMTerrain in the UK. Haven't settled on a name yet, but as all the ships are named after women in my campaign I shall have a bit of a mooch around the net later for the names of some Belgian princesses or queens.

She'll be armed with this 6 pdr, so will pack the same punch as her foe the Königin Luise. Though she doesn't look as fast as her, or as solidly built.

Her crew will be recruited from these chaps, Old Glory French sailors. As it is something of a Pulpish affair, I've decided to base their uniforms not on any real Belgian naval uniform (besides, I have no clue what one looks like) but on the sailor suits worn by these chaps:

Belgium's second-most famous detectives (after Hercules Poirot) , Dupont et Dupond from the Tintin books. Also on hand will be some Force Publique boys to make up the numbers as makeshift marines.

Finally we just add a Belgian Naval Ensign downloaded from the net:

And we're ready to go!

From a dedicated elephant-lover: beautiful! Could also work for some time-travel to the pliocenic (or whatever those 4,5metre tall elephants called their home era... err... you know what I mean).

By the way, Chris, I forgot to respond: Yes, I very much would like to see the scans of those flechettes, if it's not too much bother.

Thank you.

Sure! Please drop me Personal Message with your email adress, so I can send you the pics - I´d rather not upload them, but I guess a copy for a buddy (if I may be so bold) should be fair deal.

Well, cracking a joke about black powder and the Perrys may seem a little harsh in writing, I admit. Sorry.

Anyway, I just received today from Pulp Figures Evil Hooded Minions I and II, Sinister Spies, Dangerous Dames, Brit's Tropical Cmd and the scientists (PHP6 - don't recall the exact name.).

And I could swear, I have that elephant of Plynke's somewhere among my old stuff at my father's house! I remember that the tusks were missing.
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

The elephant was made by the toy firm Brittains.

I bought it from a fellow TMPer. I think it was Stronty Girl, but I have a really terrible memory, so it might have been someone else.

It's been sitting around the place for ages, but I decided to get it out the other day and paint it. Haven't started on the actual painting yet, just filled in some gaps where the ears join the head.

Exactly, the ears! I wonder how I managed not to get them lost, too. I may have been 6 or 7 (or even younger) when I got it. I may have to visit the old guy and try to dig it out from under my bed - or whereever it is...
